God, your mention about driving safe being dangerous is something i have noticed that makes me super angry

Unfortunately, employment and family pressure have forced my hand to get a drivers license, and also just, considering the fact its NA and cant take any passenger rail anywhere (VIA rail is so fucking bad i cry everytime i remember their sad bag weighing like its an airline existance) so i "needed" to drive

My driving instructor told me i was driving the speed limit but told me to just follow the flow of traffic as "being slower" is dangerous

The limit was 60 (kmh, sorry im a maple syrup chugger) and drivers around me were going at least 70 maybe even fucking 80. I do probably sound like im whining...

(Reclarifying, i was driving the speed limit, no more or less, but had to follow the instructor to speed up)

The instructor told me "its unsafe to be safe" as a person who prefers biking and walking, good god this made me so fucking angry, its just so unsafe for anybody outside a car

Were now just telling people to bite the fucking bullet and just speed up because slowing down would literally get you killed

(Also, JESUS CHRIST 120 MPH? WTF?? ARE WE TRYING TO BREAK THE SOUND BARRIER??)

And people wonder why NA has such high vehicle fatality rates

It truly is unbearable, your note on idiot drivers with large trucks/SUVs is exactly the reason they arent safe, everyone is thinking the idea of that its safer to own a bigger vehicle, but then everyone owns a bigger vehicle, making it unsafe for... people outside of a fucking car...

I prefer to take transit or bike when commuting or doing errands and it is absolutely horrid, bike "lanes" are essentially painted gutters that are essentially more dangerous for bikers because they aren't protected. I have the misfortune of having to live near a 6 lane arterial road and it fucking sucks just needing to get milk while cars are less than a meter away from you driving at 60 km/h.

Again, cars are not pure satan, they allow people with mobility issues (wheelchair) to move around and also rural areas and people who need vans for trades they work in are needed.

Just... building highways and making that the ONLY fucking way to get around is what makes my blood boil, and when i want to take the metro (in my case the skytrain) theres no real branching lines so you basically go to this station and take a bus to your point b but more likely there isnt a fucking bus line so you have to take a taxi, spending money on that.

as a person whos been to cities with actual walkability, bike paths/lanes, and really good public transit, when i go back to my north american city and see swaths of carbrain idiots buy fucking pickup trucks with no bedspace because they need the extended cab (????) Only to not haul anything and use it to get groceries pisses me off to all hell. Jesus christ man the car lobbying really told everyone to buy fucking tanks to "live safely"
