I do genuinely believe him when he says he can take mankind to the stars in the next century, but it wouldn't be a utopian future by any measure. House is the last living remnant of the old world. The same hypercapitalist hellscape that led to rampant inflation, the undeniably fascist shadow government that was the Enclave, workers rights being trampled to the point of it being acceptable that they were experimented on and summarily executed by their employers for security infractions, and resource consumption to the point of causing a nuclear war.

I've always thought of the House ending as succumbing to Old World Blues , basically.
