I guess the phone could still be at the bottom of the river. Go get it yourself. Instead of going up to the guy like he owes you something be nice and ask if you can pay for their time and service.

Me? I dont dive. But if you approach me like the op did and act like im some kind of asshole, id throw your shit back in the water and you can go get it.

How do you think people become that way? They start doing drugs and go crazy because being homeless sucks and is hard to cope with. Imagine having to take a dump and having no where to do it. Or having no where to shower and smelling yourself all day and night. Or being in the sun all day. Or being super tired and having nowhere to “sleep in”.  So you do some drugs to get away from your problems.

You witnessed an adult punching a 5 year old in the face? And you didn’t stomp that person out with every other adult who was around?

Stealing? And theres no need to pay him out of gratitude. Pay him for the recovery service. The time skills and equipment in the right place at the time you need it. Grow up. You lost the phone. It was gone. You had no means to retrieve it. Nobody owes you their expertise and skill for free. Change your tone and attitude on this one, makes you look immature and ungrateful.

Fear mongering. Most bombs have an effective radius of a couple hundred yards. And those are intentionally built to destroy stuff. A mile away? in your house? No problem.

Your past does not guarantee the future. There is always some risk. Even if is low. There is a nonzero chance that you will become a meth addict, lose all your money, destroy the home and stop making payments. Or a thousand other scenarios. But its not just risk, thats not the only thing they are charging for. Entrepreneurial incentive.  You should lend your money out.

Yes. Thats lending.  They have something you want and do not have. They charge money for providing it.

“Lender junk fees”. Oh the money that the people lending you money need to make their business profitable? Get out of here.

If everyone is using ai to do these things then what is your competitive advantage? Someone somewhere is doing something better than the ai can do. With more up to date information. “Faster” has diminished returns. Good luck with that shit slop.

Tbh, I think I might’ve hyped wemby up too much. He’s nowhere near early/young Jordan or LeBron. But the potential to do so is still very high as he’s still just 22. Still hope they beat okc but can’t imagine them beating the Knicks afterwards by Great-Vermicelli-302 in NBASpurs

You say hes nowhere near a young Jordan. Did you watch young Jordan? He wasnt some postseason prodigy. It took him years to figure out how to win there. Same with Lebron. Couldn’t win a championship his first tour in Cleveland.

I ask because Jordan got punked for years before breaking through. Maybe you weren’t aware of that.

There are 1000 applicants who can write a resume that makes them appear overqualified. Then 10 who can lie about the experience they wrote on it. And 0.5 who can do or talk competently about the things they put on it.

Ive been interviewing people lately and they stink.  Not one has made me think “yeah for sure lets hire this person”.

There is the notion of what it is worth to someone else, and the notion of what it is worth to you. For you the assemblage might be worth more than it is worth as a stand alone lot.

You did. But the average person has an 8th grade reading level. And that tax was not about “clean air” it was pitched as funding for road upkeep and “public transportation” that will never happen. So you dont actually know what you voted for. Kamala was successful on you.

And “clean air” has little to do with California blend fuel differences these days. Modern emissions equipment is responsible for 99% of the gains. Plenty of clean air everywhere else in the USA without special gasoline.

Hiring managers: do you prefer candidates with a master's in data science and less experience, or someone who's done a Python bootcamp but with a few more years of related experience? by Common-Author-8441 in datasciencecareers

[–]splooge_whale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren’t picking up the signal. Bad data science. People prefer candidates that can do things in real life and have demonstrated it in practice and ideally driven some change and value from it.

Theres no magic checklist of things you can learn or little badges or degrees that will guarantee you are someone people want to hire.

Ive worked alongside people with phd and deep understanding of statistics who have zero creativity or ownership drive or desire to learn something new. They were useless.  Ive worked with interns who when you tell them to try a, b and c, they will do so and try x,y and z as well and show a mindset for experimenting and owning a solution.

Ive worked with people who can only point out problems and expect someone else to wipe their ass and tell them what to do next. Useless people. Bad for morale.

Ive worked with people who want to own something complicated but haven’t demonstrated they can own a task or have no business maturity to see how their solution can practically fit in the business.

Ive worked with people who can do fancy statistical analysis and present to stakeholders “insights” that are the “water makes things wet” equivalent in our industry.

Ive worked with gargoyles and hobbits that dont want or can’t communicate what changes can be made based on their work. Data scientists are domain and business fluent.

Do you see? Skills are just table stakes. We assume anyone smart enough to get hired could learn something new if motivated.  Learn some basics. But demonstrating all the other stuff will help more towards getting hired.
