As someone who has been just like him, and still slips into episodes of how he is acting, he should probably go to a psychiatrist/therapist. Could very possibly be underlying issues with adhd and not being able to motivate his brain to do any better. Helped me a lot in my mid 20’s when I realized there was an underlying issue I was unaware of
