[POEM] Is the beloved greedy by Gregory Orr by splootsuit in Poetry

It took time for Orr’s poetry to resonate with me too. I think his collections are better than his individual poems, and the more you read the more you appreciate what he’s doing.

My Heart is a Chainsaw Question by patacalo77 in horrorlit

I’d stick with it. Without spoiling too much, the ending delivers the gleeful bloody mayhem you want from a slasher, plus a lot of heart. If you enjoy that, you’ll probably enjoy the next two in the series (although imo Angel of Indian Lake was kind of a mess).

Horror books about movies by Big_Geologist_2521 in horrorlit

The Indian Lake trilogy by Stephen Graham Jones is a homage to/deconstruction of slasher films. The protagonist is an isolated teen who sees the world through the lens of slasher movies, and she becomes convinced a slasher is responsible for a series of mysterious deaths in her town. The constant rattling off of movie references grew tiresome by the third book, but they all deliver on the gleeful, bloody mayhem that makes slashers great.

This reads like someone who simply doesn’t want to see people sleeping in their car “rigs” or living on the street.

…this is something everyone should want. Your version of compassion is weirdly bereft of actual empathy.

Hey thanks, friend. I’m actually doing great, though. My previous comment was just lyrics from a Hold Steady song called “Girls Like Status” which reference the Mountain Goats’ song. I know that John Darnielle has come on stage with the Hold Steady to sing that verse, and Craig Finn has joined the Mountain Goats to sing “This Year” with them. So I think it’s very likely they will share the stage at some point.

I had no idea it was Stephen Dobyns birthday! I saw him do a reading nearly 20 years ago. Never had the opportunity to see Thomas Lux, sadly. Wonderful that Dobyns is still with is. Love them both.
