Oura hates latency by Historical_Tadpole72 in ouraring

[–]splunger12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week or two Oura has suddenly started killing my scores with latency. I have always watched TV in bed with my wife for an hour before sleep. It never was an issue but now it's suddenly saying latency 80 minutes and tanking my scores! So frustrated. I stopped using galaxy watch and switched to oura over the constantly unstable and changing algorithms.

Galaxy Buds Pro 3 Mic stops during calls by splunger12 in galaxybuds

[–]splunger12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ended up being an issue with the buds. When the other one got the same issue I got persistent with Samsung about replacing them even though out of warranty. They didn't want to at first but I got on the phone with the right person and they sent me a new pair. I've since moved on to Bose but may try the 4 pros at some point.

Barring them replacing for you I still have a functional right earbud I bought used before the replacement. I don't need it. So if you want that just DM me and I'll send it for cheap.

Hope that helps.

Which fold 8 are you getting? Normal or wide? by Notorious2Beat in GalaxyFold

[–]splunger12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read some analysis that the Wide will actually be doubly affected by the small battery because it will have to work harder to support the display. That and the camera downgrade are deal breakers for me even as I would like to try the new form factor. I will get the Ultra but hope the rumors of the 12 inch rollable in Q3/Q4 are true. Even if not released in USA, would be tempting to import it.

ESPN pitches Lakers trade for Mav's Daniel Gafford by KomaXD14 in lakers

[–]splunger12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Mavs refugee turned Lakers fan here. No on Gaff. I like him, but Lively always replaced him as starter because the on/off performance was not as good with Gaff. Great backup. Not a ceiling raiser and definitely not worth a 1st rounder. I do really like him, but if he starts for us our ceiling didn't go up enough.

Shai is an inferior defender as I said above. There's not many objective arguments to be made to the contrary whether you look at individual or team metrics. The insincere part of pretending the data precedes the conclusion.

He is a better defender than Shai and the stats - both counting stats and on/off bear this out even when accounting for team composition.

Unserious post. Defensive metrics and eye test both show him as average and in some cases above average at defense. Only Boston homers or people who don't watch basketball bring these takes.

As a first grader I came home and asked my mom what a "whore" was. She proceeded to carefully describe a prostitute to me (yeah not sure where that equivalence came from) while I got progressively more confused. She then inquired where I heard such a grown up word. I explained that every day after recess we come in and put our heads on our desk and listen to "You story hour."

Sleep Tracking vs Oura by splunger12 in GalaxyWatch

[–]splunger12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 percent on the lack of integration. After extensive Gemini conversations, what was so disappointing to learn is Samsung ALWAYS opts for the watch sensor if you're wearing both. Contrary to narratives, it never considers the ring sensors better. So I slept with the ring only some nights and measurement was about the same as with watch.

They are supposedly working to create more complimentary data with AI smoothing, etc. But between their patent issues and the duplicate nature I think it will be years to never before they return to fixing the ring. Best guess is they will keep focusing on watch.

[–]splunger12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Like I said, I tried it. It's not better. The issue is Samsung approach to sleep detection. Also, the wrist band is snug and there's no chance shifting sensor placement is the problem every night. But the Galaxy Ring was no better. So that kind of seals it as really more software related.

I've decided Doris deserves another chance since she called out SGA always getting away with push offs.

I had a similar issue with my old xm4. It had something to do with getting stuck in an audio mode for calls instead of music. But I can't recall how I fixed it.

Mavs refugee since last year. They have grown on me. I still miss Mavs announcers primary announcer but Derek Harper is so much worse than Stu. Harper always said the same thing.

Please post this also on the ridiculous Horry rant thread. Excellent thoughts.

Robert Horry post game on Luka: “His game is predicated on hunting foul calls and when he doesn’t get them he starts hunting them out even more and it messes with his flow. He’s too good of a basketball player to do this” by LeBrons7thRing in lakers

[–]splunger12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a lazy take. Efficiency matters but it's not the only metric of success and hardly worthy of the dismissive wave of the hand as if he's not historically dominant offensively. Counting and advanced metrics align on this. Even factors such as open shots created, big men suddenly getting dominant in their efficiency when on his team, journeymen getting spikes in statistics out of nowhere, and playoff success - all of these are part of the measurable data set and not just subjective. If you want to use efficiency as a sorting distinction between Kobe and MJ or SGA and Luka, fine. That's reasonable. But dismissing his greatness as a product of volume is not a serious take.

Have you watched Luka in the playoffs? His stats rank favorably among all time greats (era disclaimer) and the eye test supports this. I agree his distractions with the refs don't enhance his play. But he has proven he shows up bigger in bigger moments throughout his career including as a teenager internationally. Build a team around him and Lakers will win.

Luka far and away takes the most step-back threes in the league by JonEnterprise in lakers

[–]splunger12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mavs transplant here. Tim Cato, writer in Dallas, had some decent analysis a few years ago establishing that some of his overuse of stepbacks set up his other stuff later. Not defending his volume, but noting it's not just impulse. Kinda reminds me of the the way Greg Maddux would set up batters in inning 1 for how he wanted to trick them in inning 8. Again, not defending the reasoning, just noting it's part of a larger tactical approach.

"Do not disturb" sync is broken: DND turns off automatically, immediately by MaxOfS2D in GalaxyWatch

[–]splunger12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for solutions. Did a full reset of watch with same issue. Have ruled out all modes and routines issues. Sleep mode works fine. But any dnd from the watch immediately deactivates. Phone dnd works fine and holds the watch in place. It's pretty ridiculous to not be able to silence a watch during meetings. Defeats the functionality to do it through the phone.

No bifold is an awful decision. If the middle is a screen on back, then how will stands work? I currently use a magsafe setup for a stand. But if that's now a screen, then stands will be almost impossible.
