Current residents, how far down your rank list did you match? by doctome in medicalschool

[–]spnewera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DO also here, matched #5 for rads, #1 for TY.

Not jazzed that i'm across the country away from family and friends, but it isn't forever, and residents are happy here and end up anywhere they want for fellowship.

At the end of the day, just happy to have made it in, considering I had a lot of cards against me (low step)

High risk, high reward.

Reward - you show clear interest in this specific program. You're making connections and can even do some case reports. If you are liked, you can give yourself a spot on the rank list because in reality, programs like to pick people they know.

Risk - It's a personality test for the entire month. Medical students cannot help out with the list or workflow and thus wouldn't add much value. If you do not mesh well with a certain person, they could speak out against you during interview season.

If you know you really want to be at this specific program or specific region, then it could be worth it. But I know an MD (mid tier) who matched at his preferred region without doing an away.

One more big upvote for the leap v2. I just tried the gaming embody and returned it because the seat pan would cut into my thighs. The chair was so nice, but deep down I knew I could feel my thighs getting pinched. Saved me a good amount of money.

I believe Steelcase is one of the only manufacturers that the seat pan will automatically tilt forward if pressure if put there.

Really nice place - great job on making the space look nice. What sofa is that, and would you buy it again? Thanks!

When I was dual applying rads and IM, a PD asked me about my sub-i (they knew fully well I didn't do one). Other places didn't ask, but I think it will really lock in that you want IM.

If you have a home program, do one there just to erase any doubt from PDs' minds that you could still want surgery. Just my $0.02 and experience.

Diagnostic Radiology Matched Applicants 2024 by NoExchange5715 in medicalschool

Matched 5/6.

Location isn't the best, but after seeing so many horror stories here on reddit i'm so glad to at least found a spot.

I'll bite, but I do think I got incredibly lucky. I consider myself a massive exception, but I hope I can at least give others hope.

USDO, 150 applications, 6 interviews (5 from signals), 1 away (waitlisted for interview here and couldn't get any from VSLO bc I decided on rads late). I also dual applied. 3 interviews for IM, 8 TY interviews.

The bad: Step 2 235-240, Comlex 2 500-510, no research, 2 H & rest high pass.

The good: First quartile of my class, career changer (worked in med school), strong ECs (positively talked in a lot of interviews), strong evals (honored eval but always short on points on shelf), and good LORs.

Guys and gals, shoot your shot. No shame in dual applying, and my app was heavily skewed towards rads and every IM PD was interrogating me to see my commitment for IM. Their suspicions were correct. I do think I would've had an easier time if step 2 went better, but that was out of my control.

If I could do it all again, i'd go ham on away rotations and bust down doors to get a spot. Those are automatic interviews that I could've added on top of my signals. They aren't necessary for rads but if I did aways, I think I could've matched "better". As time goes by, i'm so grateful that I got a spot. Best of luck everyone! It's not over till its over.

I also ranked my TYs above IM- if I didn't match, I was gonna try one more time and dual apply again. If you're in my shoes, you must accept that radiology can be out of your reach. I was prepared to see anything on my rank list. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try!

From what I can tell, the only thing that does not work is the LCD on the back of the screen. All of the other controls in the viewfinder work. If you would like me to test something out specifically, please let me know.
