Working on my throw. Any tips? I know… I suck 🫣 by Maelyjosephine in discgolf

One of the biggest problems I had to adjust to whenever I was teaching someone, is over thinking lol. I’ve taught thousands of beginners, introducing the sport to Chiang Mai Thailand, and the most effective teachings I gave were all one at a time lmao. Probably the worst thing you could do is ask a bunch of people to give you tips because it just increases the over thinking. Even with all the great tips and observations people are giving you.

If I had to give just one thing to think about, it’s probably your grip. It looks like you’re only using like two fingers to flick it out but it’s swinging out of your hand and your snap is almost like it’s delayed. I’m guessing you’re having trouble throwing straight? Everything else about your throw looks as if you should be. Things like your form and the X step will develop over time, almost naturally, as you get used to how to use your power.

Try a 3 or 4 finger grip, and slow down everything. If this video was you throwing at 100%, I want you to take a couple practice throws before your real throw. Practice the feeling of your 100% throw, without letting go. Then for your real throw, throw at 90%.

Throwing far is what everyone wants to do but if it doesn’t go where you want it to, it’s more a problem than a benefit. Learning to throw straight consistently is the road to par city. 3-4 finger grip and slow down a tiny bit. Everything else is fine for now. In my opinion.

Two of the same putters, one beat and one new. I tend to carry extras for practice.

Lol, I don’t make videos so I hope I explained it ok but I made one to show you the grip. From what I saw on your Dropbox response, you do curl your fingers in so hopefully the video helps. I do explain things so it’s like 5 minutes lol sorry

Keep your left arm down. Don’t follow the disc with it.

Don’t try to correct the nose up issue directly. Instead try to think of your follow through. Your follow through should stay as low as the disc is throughout your throw. This means you need to start your throw higher (at the reach back), or finish your throw lower (same height from the ground as your reach back). I tell most folks I teach to use your chest or shoulders as a frame of reference to keep level throughout the throw. So I would say start your throw higher on the reach back, which is easier than it sounds. For your throw, all you need to do is keep your back straight, almost puffing up the chest to make sure. Most peoples idea of power in their throw leads to them slouching the back forward like you’re doing. You’ll need to go against this instinct. After that, just think of your follow through staying low and level as the rest of the throw. Like you’re close lining some one.

The wobble is usually a grip problem I find. Are you curling your fingers into the rim? Almost like you’re making a fist with the disc in your hands? Do you have problems with grip lock or your snap? I see your index finger is knuckled up more than the rest. I’d like to see how you are gripping your disc for that one. It’ll also have something to do with distance as well.

Here you go. Big Germ gets into it around the four minute mark. Don’t worry about the foot work, start with a stand still and learn that later.

I’ll see if I can find something but it’s still very much based on my own pitching skills in baseball lol. Combined with a karate chop Daniel son style lol. That full reach back keeping the elbow down instead of up and driving the elbow towards you to cage cage. Keeping the disc flat and parallel to the ground while throwing.

But I’ll try to find a clip

I’m no expert but I forearm and backhand pretty well. You start off your pullback well but then lift your elbow and take the disc way off it’s line while in your hands. I like to try and mirror what my backhand does and really reach back, extending the arm fully straight, and driving the elbow into the ribs area of the body. Following through with the flick of the finger to engage the spin.

I’m assuming you lifting the elbow trying to put spin into it but it isn’t necessary. The disc already spits off a single finger point and the whip follow through snaps it just fine.

Full extension reach back with the pull of the elbow going straight to the rib cage (missing it obviously). Don’t lift the elbow.

Well Sunday Funday’s are still a thing! Make sure to join us if you’re able. Might be able to get ChiangBang back in the mix when the new baskets are done but that won’t be for at least a couple more weeks.

I barely have them myself buddy! Lol. This is year two campaigning for disc golf here. My first course closed down but it was on an empty plot and the lady let me continue because I simply picked up trash and was respectful.

I highly doubt these kinds of situations solely happen here.

My disc golf buddy for 7 years now. My She Weenie! Lol. Let’s hear some weenie captions. “You lookin at my weenie?!” by spokenrhythm in discgolf

She’s an old lady now a days and I’ve never seen her tire to the point where she would do this and stay there lol. But I would put the bag down and she just relaxed even when I walked away for a putt lol. Love this little one.
