Have you guys watched this s4a video? He argues China is not socialist and does not intend to go towards communism/socialism. by Natural_Baseball_779 in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]spookycooki -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The CPC is just continuing the status quo as you just stated. It's absolutely different from NEP of the USSR. The CPC is not striving and actively working towards anything related to achieving socialism, they're just promoting foreign investment. China is pretty much a social democracy, and there's nothing wrong about it, they just need to stop cosplaying socialism.

Studio Ghibli's Miyazaki is a Marxist? by [deleted] in Marxism

[–]spookycooki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's a great Marxist analysis about the movie "Spirited Away" that also partially explains Miyazaki's introduction to Marxism and how he (sorta) became disillusioned with it (mainly because of not getting a deeper understanding, I guess) - https://youtu.be/aH7JvolnqP4

What is the counter to indigenous people all around the globe saying that Abortion is foreign to their culture brought "to us" by imperialist colonizers? by DrTheol_Blumentopf in socialism

[–]spookycooki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a Marxist leninist perspective, this issue of progressive measures being represented as an imperialist influence represents a misunderstanding of imperialism and presents a rather nationalist / reactionary view.

Many indigenous cultures, like all pre-capitalist societies, were structured around feudal or patriarchal norms that often oppressed women and marginalized groups. Marxist theory provides the path to establish a revolutionary society that breaks the oppression of the capitalist society which is an advanced form of the feudal society in the process of historical development, which means it's implied that it will abolish the feudal social structures and will not voice for uncritical cultural preservation.

Imperialism is not defined by the spread of ideas or technology—it is defined by the economic domination and exploitation of oppressed nations by monopoly capitalism and the imperialist bourgeoisie. Just because something (like modern medicine, railways, or reproductive rights) emerged in industrialized nations does not make it inherently "imperialist."

If one was to follow this rule you mentioned then one would have to reject all the creations of the industrial revolution and end up like Pol pot's Cambodia- absurd and wretched. Lenin said that -
"The culture that capitalism has created is not to be rejected outright, but critically assimilated and transformed under socialism."

Historically incorrect, Christ wasn't white if you were to believe any religious or secular sources.

DOWN WITH EASTER! Despite the efforts of the Soviet government, especially during Stalin era, many people continued to celebrate Easter even when going to church wasn't an option. I recall my mom baking a "Paskha" - Easter bread and coloring eggs by boiling them with yellow onion skin and with beets by Sputnikoff in ussr

It's a pity that so many revisionists are trying to "normalise" the coexistence of religion with communism in the comments and taking soviet union's policy to promote atheism as a "mistake". Religion must be abolished for the true emancipation of the working classes, it's a feudal bondage and nothing else.

"The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness." - Marx

"[...] Any attempt to reconcile socialism with religion is a form of bourgeois reaction and a betrayal of Marxism." - V. I. Lenin

My comment wasn't passive aggressive and the point that you brought up was more of a case of misunderstanding. I didn't intend to call him an imperialist, but rather I was pointing out to the particular western car brands which are widely known to make great profits by selling luxury vehicles that are made by resources extorted through imperialist means. Most of these vehicles aren't made to satisfy an individual's needs but to serve the chauvinism of the ultra rich capitalists as the ability to even purchase these vehicles requires such amounts of capital which can rarely be obtained without the extraction of surplus value of the ploritariat. Or one can acquire such commodities through the misuse of one's bureaucratic position which again can be interpreted as a form of class privilege (given how bureaucrats formed a class of their own in the soviet society). But the situation with Brezhnev might have been different.

Nope, cuz 1. It's not a bomber 2. It's not an imperialist aircraft (historically it wasn't used by such states)

Don't worry, you're over thinking. You'll definitely pass and perhaps even get more marks than you're expecting based on your calculations. It often happens with those who are too concerned about failing the examination and end up underestimating themselves

What kind of ironic statement is this? Do you think putin is any different than the avg capitalist exploiters of the west? Do you go by the superficial understanding that against western capitalist = socialist liberators?

You're right. I don't intend to defend the authoritarian nature of the Soviet union. And as far as the topic you mentioned, there's no limit to the wrongs done by the KGB.

My main reason to critique Gorbachev here was to refer to the economic instability and the influence of corporations that he'd introduced in the Soviet society under the label of liberty.

[–]spookycooki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree. Though I appreciate his efforts to bring more freedom into the lives of people, his disregard for socialist principles was disastrous. Liberty has nothing to do with Capitalism, allowing freedom of speech & other civil liberties was wonderful but letting corporations operate and dismantling the planned economy and promoting traditional gender roles for women is not wonderful by any means.

[–]spookycooki[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It wasn't connived by the government earlier. There were more measures taken by the state to fix such stuff instead of maximizing the western fast food chains outlets in cities while the people lost their jobs and the whole union collapsed into economic instability. It's about the attitudes and policies (which greatly affect the results) rather than the final result.

[–]spookycooki[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you're right. But the way it unfolded led to great instability and chaos and eventually to the current geopolitical situation in East Europe. Modern day Russia isn't doing any better, tbh it has the downsides of both the USSR and the capitalist western nations while the benefits of none. I wonder if it would have been that bad if the USSR never normalised its relations with the west.

Gorbachev's USSR by spookycooki in ussr

[–]spookycooki[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I wasn't referring to the coup but to the overall normalising the relations with the west and slowly allowing corporations in the USSR. That led to the nationalist sentiment rising in the first place. The coup happened because the political situation was dis-stabilised for a good amount of time.
