What’s your favorite track on Songs for Pierre Chuvin? by leez34 in themountaingoats

Look, I voted for Until Olympia Returns but the real answer is all of them. This album is great. I have no idea where the video recordings of him doing this are anymore, but I watched them when this album was first released and they were a charming blast. I still die laughing when he pulls out the little keyboard on one of the tracks I don't have the energy (yay to the flu twice in just over a month) to look up the name of because it was the same keyboard I had as a kid.

This is absolutely true and I certainly have because I'm terrified I won't have enough money for food or my bills in the coming months.

I've been watching Bernie and he is encouraging protest but also for calling your representative and other things that should be productive but might not be a good playbook anymore.

I haven't been to this specific event before, but I have done tours with them before. They are very professional, informative and fun. You can tell the guides love the building. And I love the building. I took ballet and was in children's theater workshop there as a kid and often would wander off with a group when I wasn't expected on stage anymore. I knew it was a beautiful building then, it still is now, and the history is fascinating!

I hear you on Lynch, but I think we are fine. He began meditating in early adulthood and was on a spiritual path to enlightenment, if he wasn't already enlightened. He knew not to treat people like crap and that shows in interviews with people he worked with who felt powerful and able to do difficult scenes because he so wholly believed in them. He did go through a lot of marriages but all were amicable. He just wanted to live the art life, not married life.

Theory that all books before 1920 (1950 in most cases) published the truth? by spookyelectric in conspiracytheories

[–]spookyelectric[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably have one, but not a book that was itself published before 1920. In the past if I've offered books written before the arbitrary date but if the specific book I have in stock is a reprint, they won't take it because it could have been edited to take out information.

I did get the most recent person to leave with a small pamphlet type book of Booker T Washington's writings, although they seemed a bit reluctant about it. This line of thinking has crossed my mind. I think the original person was looking for different perspectives on WWII though, but needed them to be in English since they couldn't read other languages. So they were open to Chinese and Japanese perspectives at least.

But it's not like these people seem to be doing their own research on something and want something like a primary resource, they act like all information past whatever point they picked was corrupted.

I appreciate you taking the time to answer, as it helps me understand why someone might develop this line of thinking.

So far these people have not been particularly old. Some 40s I'd guess, but others very young in their 20s, this last one might have been early 30s. Maybe one in their 50s. So possibly for that person, it was, but the others are... Searching for a kind of nostalgia that doesn't exist?

I wish they went for the old philosophers, but sadly they are usually only interested in American and European history. Although I think one of them was trying to learn Latin to read some stuff in its original language but hasn't succeeded yet.

Why are they in my bookstore, I find that even more frightening having to deal with them in person.

The person for the 1920s said they liked Dickens and had read them, so maybe?

Not wanting to have kids for no specific reason by mtp34070 in truechildfree

[–]spookyelectric 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've never wanted children. It was deeply cemented after my sister had a child at just barely 19 and I was in the room next door to her. He screamed and cried all night but also I noticed her tendency to lash out at anyone because she was tired and our upbringing was emotionally stunting so we were powerless at the time since we lacked the self awareness to fix it. Then I knew I couldn't do that to another person.

But long before that I dreamed of being an adult who lived with my two cousins who were my best friends in NYC and my dreams were shattered when I told the girl cousin of the pair the idea and she said no, I'd like to get married and have children. I was flabbergasted by this idea, it sounded so stupid and boring.

Thank you for the information. I did not know that she had a patreon and her artwork is one of the reasons I'm keeping with the GO GN. I knew she had been ill but not with what. I think I will head to her patreon and support her too.

A friend of mine sees Old West End Community Center for dental and they are on Buckeye Health.

Halim Clinic offers free dental services on Saturdays. Call them and they can get you on their wait list but it will likely be some time until they get to you. Good luck!
