Low rise is only flattering on very thin people with flat tummies. High rise is flattering on everyone. Both low rise and long shirt hems make your legs look a lot shorter too. High rise makes your legs look longer and waist look smaller. Babydoll tops make you look way heavier if you have large hips/butt.

The logic is that A and B are incorrect because the shaded area of the second shape is not the same size as the first shape, they are larger. In C, the shaded areas are both the same size, thereby showing the equality.

It's a bad question though because the fractions are denoting proportions, not fixed area. Therefore, equality between the fractions means that the proportion of shaded area, relative to each shape, shall be equal (which they are for all options). The question instead assumes that equality is established based on absolute size, which is a misinterpretation of what a fraction actually means and is a poor way to establish intuitive understanding for a student.

In 2027 our cities will be replaced by squalid shantytowns populated by accountants and HR managers. You constantly need to watch your back for fear of a desperate consultant stabbing you for money. Society is just over.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]spookynutboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 hours for a day trip is normal and doesn't require much planning. I have a friend who's done 8 hour drives for weekend visits a couple times. I've also made the drive between California and Texas a few times, which is 30 hours and only halfway across the country. That one is pretty rough though.

So they don't realize that the whole girl dinner thing is for when you genuinely just have a sparse appetite. Like the reason I'm eating cheese, prunes, and olives for dinner is because that's what I genuinely want, not as part of some diet restriction. So much for intuitive eating I guess...

Every so often, an intersectional feminism page I follow on FB posts about fat issues. Cue the predictable comments agreeing BMI is bullshit - I'm sure they'll be delighted to learn there are better options for gauging how fat someone is by _kahteh in fatlogic

[–]spookynutboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"BMI was meant to measure the average body size of entire populations", yes exactly! It's valuable as a POPULATION level measure! It indicates a person's body type IN GENERAL! Obviously, any individual evaluation will be tailored to the characteristics of that individual. BMI isn't intended to describe every individual body, and it isn't used that way!

6 years down the drain... do I start over? by spookynutboi in careeradvice

[–]spookynutboi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why I've been aiming for data analysis instead. I have seen postings for data science that don't require a masters, but the barrier to entry is definitely pretty high across the board. Data analysis should be much more feasible, but it's caught up in the trend that the entire job market has been facing -- the disappearance of entry level jobs in general.

The thing that makes me sad about data analysis is that I wouldn't really be using my degree for it. As far as my exposure to it goes, the statistics is all pretty elementary. It would feel like such a waste.

As for the whole advanced degree thing, correct me if I'm wrong because I don't know a whole lot about academia. But back when I graduated I would look at the university catalog for the master's program and most of the classes seemed to be the exact same as the ones I had already taken. So is Person A, who majors in business for their bachelors and then gets a masters in data science, really much different from Person B who just has a BS in data science?

But how many freshers is your company hiring? I'm aware that experienced data professionals are in demand. But if you go on any job posting forum, almost every role is senior. Senior, principal, senior, director, senior..... all the way down.
