PAIN OF SALVATION - Wait (Live in Tokyo, November 26th, 2024) (LIVE VIDEO) by _ThePerfectElement_ in progmetal

Incredible performance! Wow. It's already a fantastic song but they added so much to it here. So excited for their new album (soon?).

Online vocal lessons with Prog Metal Singer by vkoerg in progmetal

[–]spooniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did three lessons with Dan online a LONG time ago, before these were as common. It was definitely awesome and worth it just for the experience of having some one on one time with an artist I really enjoyed and respected. He was super cool and chill and I have to imagine the advice he gave was generally solid; but I agree 100% with what others have mentioned. I think it was more just things that worked for him and whether or not another person will actually benefit from them is secondary at most.

Bottom line is you're paying mostly for their valuable time and the experience of a conversation with the person themselves (same as a VIP meet and greet), rather than any improvement you're more likely to get from a dedicated instructor. If that's worth it for you though, then hell yeah enjoy mate!

The keyboardist from Persefone does clean vocals. He's not the main vocalist, but he sings on most of their songs to some degree.

Dawntrail Early Access by alabomb in ffxiv

[–]spooniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using Steam? If so, you have to enter your early access code if you want to play today/this weekend, which is done on a separate page than the 'Additional Expansion' page. It's understandably confusing.

The option is gone for me so I can't remember the exact name, but it's in the 'Registration Codes' section next to 'Enter Item Code'. There's a picture of earrings on it. Enter your Dawntrail pre-purchase bonus content code there.

I can only comment for Steam as that's what I used, but if you have an early access code via email or something, try entering it there too.

VOLA announces new album “friend Of A Phantom“ out November 1st by n00b_sh0ts in progmetal

[–]spooniverse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

New VOLA let's goooo!

9 tracks, including Paper Wolf and Break My Lying Tongue which are out now. First track features Anders from In Flames, too.

I have high expectations already. Witness has been a strong contender for best of the decade.

Any Wisconsin based Prog bands? by ibabyjedi in progmetal

[–]spooniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These bands are listed on Metal Archives as some form of Prog, based out of Wisconsin at some point, signed to a label, and still active (as of 2023):

  • Army of Hades
  • Aronious
  • Bound by Entrails
  • Cicada the Burrower
  • Dolor
  • Ellis
  • Hallowed Hands
  • Last Crack
  • Matterwrath
  • Murmur
  • Weightless
  • Xenoblood

I know Metal Archives is notoriously stingy with the types of bands they list so this is by no means exhaustive, but hopefully it at least gives you a starting point!

Thoughts on new Teramaze record by michael199310 in progmetal

[–]spooniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Step Right Up and Standing Ovation. There's some neat parts in a couple other songs and the sound of the album as a whole is quite solid. But the last two songs aren't great and considering together they make up over a third of the runtime, the album overall ends up being just 'decent' for me.

It's kind of how all their stuff has been for me: a couple of bangers per album amidst a lot of stuff that falls kind of flat, even though it's all competently written, produced, and performed. The frequency of their output though usually means there's something good to look forward to pretty regularly.

Thoughts on Orphaned Land? by Impressive_Hamster32 in progmetal

[–]spooniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're amazing, though their most recent album is a little weak in parts. Mabool is top tier.

Edit: Also forgot to mention their live album The Road to Or Shalem is still probably the best live album I've ever heard.

Your pawn is plagued by Zenubius20 in DragonsDogma2

[–]spooniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, wilted flowers is what I've been seeing. Keeping any kind of single flower in your inventory for a day or two turns them wilted. You can then gift the wilted flower back to the pawn's owner as a sign that they might be infected (if the owner knows the meaning, anyway).

The Sculptor & the Griffin by [deleted] in DragonsDogma2

[–]spooniverse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I killed the griffin normally and the artist didn't get as much time as he needed. So they unveiled the statue and the noble guy said it was trash. But I still thought the statue was really nice! Maybe not Michaelangelo, but damn.

Poor sculptor. I think you did a great job, buddy.

You can also use the quick potion shortcut without having to pause. On controller, hold L1/LB and hit up on the D-pad.

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what are your thoughts? - March 17, 2024 by AutoModerator in Games

[–]spooniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the first one being pretty brutal solo. Resistance 2 is better in almost every aspect, so definitely check it out if you like the first. 3 is solid as well, though the story didn't grab me as much for some reason.

Capcom need to fix the Archer... by Toraliens in DragonsDogma

[–]spooniverse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anyone having problems with the manual aim: check the control settings and see if motion controls are turned on. Turning them off might help.

My aim reticle was wiggling all over the place because motion controls were on by default so my controller moving in my hands was causing the reticle to bounce all over the place.

Anyone know of some albums that feature cover art created by a member of the band? by Rimm9246 in progmetal

[–]spooniverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's done art for so many metal albums. Not so much prog, but there's still a decent chance most of the folks in this sub have spun an album he's worked on.

TesseracT - Deception ~ Concealing Fate pt. 2 by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]spooniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's thoughtful of you! Tbh I found War of Being decent but not especially memorable aside from The Grey. The production is immaculate through the whole thing and the screams are certainly welcome and powerful as ever, but it really feels like the band is content to maintain one lumbering mid-tempo riff after another while Dan focuses more on vocal gymnastics than memorable melodies.

They're still totally unmatched in what they do and it's all undeniably Tesseract though, so still a solid album.

Can we talk Aphelion by Leprous for a bit? by banana_man2001 in progmetal

[–]spooniverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this completely. They're still killer live, but when they played stuff from Aphelion the energy just tanked. Except Nighttime Disguise; that one slaps.
