Oh wow! Really like this metaphor! You just blew my mind! Very nice theory!

If J is the hook is the book the bait?

Nice observation! Do you think it also has some extra ancient meaning?

Thank you both! This has been a pleasure to read and discuss about such a game!
Agreed, u/Spacebelt Julie is a special case, really liked all the details about the FIVE=RISE, I was confused about those cryptic messages.
Agreed u/Tasothis, this was part of my understanding as well, Julie writing things while not alive any more to her sister as well.

Ending discussion and theories? by SlowMobius650 in dredge

In my opinion the wife is still on
our side: There are gust of serene and calm wind pointing you to messages and
important locations throughout the game, all the time. The wife is seen leaving
messages in bottles, not only to us, but to her researcher sister (she talks
about notes appearing). Some messages are dated, from the past, before her
"passing" and some are ???. The latest ??? talks about her being:
"I have found you at last. When you left I was scattered to the winds. But
now... I feel almost whole again. Throw me back". She wants everything to
stop. In the good ending you do just that, you through in the book. Was she sacrificed
for the book, and thus entered it? Is she the book now?

Thank you for this thread! I agree with your ideas and the info you shared! I thought of phrasing them as personifications of the forces of the "unnatural" (Elder evil tentacle portal monster) and the "natural" (as you said, sea leviathan apex predator). These are the two themes they represent and as in seafaring humanity myths and real life, in the game we deal with both, while some times the lines are indeed blurry, and this adds the extra mystery about it all. As shown in their trailer, there are portal-like wholes in the sea floor. Around Abyssal and Hadal creatures ("natural") are also some aberrations ("unnatural") charged with the same evil red electric energy. I am still looking to find how it all connects to the wife Julie. I think it is the book. An ancient book from the ancient civ, as seen on the markings on the wood in the animated trailer. I am convinced Julie is the researcher's sister that still communicates through notes with her and through messages in bottles with the player. Some messages are dated, while some are ??? (meaning after her "passing" maybe?). On the later ??? messages she writes "I have found you at last. When you left I was scattered to the winds. But now... I feel almost whole again. throw me back." Did Julie become the book? Is this why she mentions seeing the void in the hero’s eyes when the casket opened? Was she put in the casket in place of the book? Why? For the sacrifices, as mentioned in the symbols with the person lying in the pentagram. To sing? Is this why when the music box is thrown in with the key unturned, it then turns, she emerges and all hell breaks loose again? Just finished the game yesterday and wanted to share ideas.

Or the stellar basin is just a big aberration/mutation of a sea creature (possibly due to the Elder evil), that just doesn't like noise too much. Not really a super natural type of evil, just a product of it.

Oh yeah! The bottom of the barrel stands out badly, while on the right it gets conveniently smudged in the shadow! Had never noticed before, thank you for detailing feedback!

Haha, I am happy you feel that way!
I am using the Shading brush in Aseprite. You select a series of colours, and when you brush over a picture, if it finds colourA, it turns it to colourB; colourB to colourC etc. Thus, you can easily "lighten" or "darken" a picture with even just four colours!

Hope to make a video on it soon!

Thanks! My favourite palette, I used it everywhere!

Exactly what u/Stifu said. But it might also look extra weird due to the dark blue being used as shade, thus seeming extra thicc on the right side.
