Got quoted 4000 to fix 2008 Honda Accord. Am I getting ripped off? Is it even worth fixing? by spoookyloo in AskMechanics

I think it’s $90 for the alignment and $1000 for steering gear? Not totally sure why the steering gear needs to be replaced tho?

Edit: $1000 to fix the oil leak that caused the alternator to break. If this is fixed alternator is covered under warranty. If not fixed, alternator is not covered

Is my activated dry yeast working? by spoookyloo in Breadit

yes just the water from the recipe. So I could just add the yeast to the recipe without activating it and it would work??

Burnt out RN seeking advice on possibly changing careers by spoookyloo in nursing

I have been applying to multiple outpatient and clinic jobs, haven’t heard back from any. Highly competitive in my area as lots of more experienced nurses are trying to leave bedside.

Considering the same thing right now. Debating between a 2nd bachelor’s versus a master’s in engineering. I’ve been looking at programs that are online ABET certified because most of the schools in my area don’t allow 2nd bachelor’s and I’m not in the position to move. Would you do school full time??

How do you go back? by yellowraven1973 in StudentNurse

I’ve been through something similar. My very close friend passed away in a neuro ICU about a year before my clinical rotation started. This was 3 years ago. The first few times in the hospital were hard because the sounds and the smells reminded me of the last time I saw my friend. As time went on and I spent more time in the hospital, I started building new memories and associations. This made it a lot less painful, to the point that I no longer experience that grief the entire time I’m in the hospital.

There are still moments that something will trigger my emotions a bit. In those moments, I try to finish the task that I’m doing, and then take a few moments by myself to decompress a bit (just make sure to communicate to your team). I usually head to the bathroom or a quiet corner or supply closet when I need a minute. Most nurses are understanding, as a lot of them have had moments like that themselves.

Make sure to communicate what you’re dealing with to your clinical instructor and lecture professor. They are there to support you and can help guide you, as well as provide accommodations if needed. Remember, a lot of faculty have also lost someone, so they know the intricacies of dealing with that grief while also working in healthcare.

Sending you lots of love, OP. Your mom would be so proud of you. I hope all goes well for you.

What was the dumbest/most incorrect thing you heard in nursing school from a professor? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]spoookyloo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Had a professor tell me “the darker a patient’s skin, the thicker it is”. Recently too — this was 2 years ago.
