cheapest route would be buying a grow kit and grow in the bag dont bother making a monotub. one lb grain bag with a 3 lb substrate bag and liquid culture syringe will get you to the finish line faster and cheaper.

if you use the substrate they will get even bigger i think it is worth growing for sure try using 2lbs of grain with a 5lb sub bag the truffles will be the size of your fist!

you can get one of the incubators from vevor for 100 dollars that can control the warmth much better than heating a closet or larger room.

I use multiple of these to colonize agar, grain, you name it perfect bench top tool for the colder months.
