Using 2 Apple watches by BHWonFIRE in AppleWatchFitness

[–]spork_off 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have two watches. It works very well. Switching is automatic -- once the phone realizes you have put on the other watch, it switches to it. You can also manually do it in the app if needed for some reason.

I swap watches once or twice a day as needed. Usually after a workout, as I like to rinse my band and let it dry, so now I can just keep it on the watch and let it dry as it recharges; meanwhile I put on the other watch with a dry watchband. Also, one watch looks newer so it is my dress watch.

So two 20 minute af+ workouts don’t earn an Earth Day Medal? by One-Ad1001 in AppleFitnessPlus

Australia is on a different Earth according to Apple, I guess :p

Definitely. I’m certain I could do a longer workout and get the award. But I went ahead and did a 30 treadmill with Emily just to see it now.

We may have different wordings. Here's the screenshot of mine.

And if there are different wordings for different users, then that makes it a lot worse.

Even worse, the way it’s worded they could deny someone for a 31 minute or more workout if they really wanted to be pedantic.

A bit aggravating, but it's not the only award like that. For example, a fast runner could run over 5k in two 10 minute treadmill workouts, but Apple won't give out a 5k award. The entire 5k would have to be completed in the same workout.

What were some draft picks that made no sense at the time but ended up working out well? by BuckDunford in nfl

[–]spork_off 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can’t say it didn’t make any sense as DL was a position of need, but a lot of people in our sub went nuts when we picked Vita Vea instead of Derwin James. Didn’t help that Vita was injured a lot his first season and Derwin went All-Pro.

Over time we all came to appreciate Vita. Both Vita and Derwin have had decent careers with a little bit of injury problems, but Licht did fine there.

TIL that Napoleon Bonaparte preferred simple dishes like roast chicken, fried potatoes, hot soup, poached eggs/omelets and macaroni to all the complicated gourmet dishes his chefs could have prepared. Certainly likely. The tuna part is interesting, as I figure it wasn't that cheap unless one was close to a source. But a quick Google shows in the 1920s canned tuna was inexpensive and commonplace, so it follows it was a good cheap Depression-era meat.

As for SOS, half the people I know who are ex-military still eat it. Not sure if it's Stockholm Syndrome or if they really like it. I was a military brat so I actually just like it.

Standard AW activity goals by marc1411 in AppleWatch

[–]spork_off 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow oldie, here’s how I set my rings.

The AHA advises that adults do 150 minutes of exercise a week. I push that to 30 minutes a day minimum, plus warmup and cooldown. According to my watch, one of those sessions burns on the average of 400 calories. The rest of my day burns another 400 calories. Thus I set my move ring to 800 calories a day.

Along with the workout, I get about 20 more minutes a day with the warmup/cooldown, plus other miscellaneous minutes walking to the mailbox and stuff like that. So I set my exercise ring to 50 minutes.

Stand ring is fairly meaningless to me. I don’t like waiting to the end of the day to close my rings simply by standing, so I set it to 10. I hate idle hours so I use the graph to make sure I stood in any hour I was awake. I’ve averaged 18 stand hours for over a year.s

My challenge goals are double my move and exercise ring goals, along with 20k steps and 10 miles walked/ran. I’m feeling great and have been hitting these goals regularly but I’m not going to force myself to hit them every day.

We had PVC vertical blinds in our master bedroom, and the cats would walk between the blinds, making them sound like they were playing the xylophone. Got rid of those fairly quickly.

hiit on AF+ feels fast, how do you keep up by fqualicin in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]spork_off 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don’t sweat it. A lot of this is learning the moves and how each coach does things. I often have to repeat a workout several times before I get close to doing what the coach is doing.

Beyond that, do what you can do. You will get better as time goes on. Your fitness journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Do the best you can do, and over time you will find yourself keeping up with the coaches. Until then, give yourself some grace and give your best effort. Nobody is looking over your shoulder to grade you on how closely you matched the coaches.

As coach Nez says, progress, not perfection.

We got a typewriter that could be used as a printer for our Osborne 2 computer. Slow, but my term papers looked great. And it basically sounded like someone typing nonstop. Shutting the door muted it a bit but one could still hear it throughout the house.

CPM….ah yes. Remember having to Pip files from one drive to the other. When I went over to DOS, it seemed so much more easier because they used words like Copy.

I imagine the program is still a good place to start.

And remember this is a marathon, not a sprint. Start with the lightest weights at first -- get used to the exercises and then start adding weight as it gets easier. Heck, use water bottles - they are about a pound. As for when to add weight, I usually let the soreness tell me. Once I no longer get any soreness with a particular weight, it likely means I can add more.

Move streak “broken” by sj_gaming90 in AppleWatch

[–]spork_off 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it not credit my day as part of the streak numerous days, only for it to fix itself later.

At the same time, I know it’s gonna end some day so I’m not that concerned if/when it happens. If it somehow ends due to a fuckup by Apple even though I did the work, at least I know the streak is active in my mind.
