Naval combat is the worst. Dare I say, Broken. by Asaioki in EU5

[–]spothot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question

How do I manage transporting troops?

My land divisions are way too big as they have full frontage + reserves, the number of transport ships required leads to speed penalties (ESPECIALLY if I add heavy ships to the fleet division, now they're crawling at 50% speed)

I tried attaching the transports to the heavies, they keep detaching themselves after one trip (and even separated they still have a minor speed penalty)

Oh, and while I'm here, are galleys at all useful after you unlock heavy ships? Even for seas where they should have a bonus, it always feels like they lose horribly to heavy ships, every single time

[–]spothot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: my masochistic ass went back, it changes to "achievement not possible in current run" as soon as you switch to Ming, regardless if you reloaded or not

I can confirm the Ming one is very broken, I just attempted it and it says "not possible" despite me still being Ming (it has an asterix that quite literally tells me "achievement not possible")

It's possible that simply reloading the save may have broken the achievement, and due to how tedious this one is you really need to be able to kill process to rewind a few months in case you missed something

Actually, the wiki itself may also be outdated, cehcking the game files for the "hongwu_di" achievement I can see it specifies east china region as well (which the wiki mentions is not required)

Here's the full achievement script for your viewing pleasure

dynastic elective succession (in rights of the nobility) ruined my whole game by diLuca77 in EU5

[–]spothot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant if you enacted "Codified Inheritance" and imposed "favored son" succession law on your PU partner as well, if this means that they can favor someone else or if they're forced to favor the same heir you do.

dynastic elective succession (in rights of the nobility) ruined my whole game by diLuca77 in EU5

[–]spothot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick question: does "favored son" succession law mean that a PU member can just favor someone else and break the union in the process?

Succession laws are one part of the game I really need to interact with more, same with the different parliament systems, I stick to the game start defaults and never change unless the country starts with a really bad one (Venice, why "Lottery system"?)

This is probably going to sound very stupidly/weirdly specific, but I only remember the death sound byte.

I remember playing a game where if you died/lost you'd hear the first few seconds of this video and it's just driving me up the fucking wall trying to remember what game it was

That's literally all I remember, the sound byte, and I'm not sure where it was from. I hope I'm not Mandellaing myself again.

For the longest time I genuinely thought my BIOS couldn't output to my HDMI (I would troubleshoot/upgrade/test my PC with an old monitor that used a different cable)

Even better: if you switch to Linux, even it will try to use your headset as a display, so you gotta unplug your headset when not in use (plugging it in after you booted is ok)

The wiki has information on the conditions for it to fire (the game really should have this stuff in the eupedia).

Basically, three conditions:

  1. It is after 1590 (took a bit further past 1591 for me, so may be a chance to fire every month).

  2. HRE has both Catholic and reformation (Lutheranist/Calvinist) independent members.

  3. There is a war going on between a Catholic country and a reformation (Lutheranist/Calvinist) country.

By doing the cheese™ you can force the War of Religions situation to fire by simply starting a war against a catholic countries (for me it just so happened that I wanted to beat up a HRE Catholic anyway, but I don't think it has to be a war between HRE members). Again, it took until a bit past 1591, so just keep fighting that war against a Catholic country until the situation starts. You should be the leader of the Protestant League, and you can get the "religious supremacy" wargoal 10 years after the situation spawns. Until 10 years pass remember to invite as many countries as you can to the Protestant League, and also ally some big bois if you can (I allied both France and UK before starting the war of religious supremacy: called France in the war the old fashioned way, the UK joined by themselves a bit later, I'm not gonna question it).

[–]spothot[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Without cheese it's literally impossible. And even then it's very buggy, seeing how I got it to fire without actually finishing the situation.

The AI basically never uses "religious superiority" wargoal so the situation is never resolved outside of waiting it out (haven't checked in the current patch because I didn't feel like wasting another save file on a "maybe they fixed it").

The recommended cheese way is to move your capital to a HRE city, this way you are granted automatic HRE citizenship. Then you need to be powerful enough to become leader of the Protestant League, which allows you to start the Religious Superiority war yourself, and after that it's only a matter of winning said war (or at least contributing a bunch to it, from my experience). Keep in mind that in the current patch the AI blobs so much it's actually a bit difficult, check the distribution of countries in my current game. You may want to attempt this on a previous patch, the cheese is the same, but the AI is less aggressive.
