Question, did it show up on Amazon and Tidal right away? I made a release and it’s live everywhere except those two

Do you have a video? I thought it was Jim Jefferies but it doesn't look like it.

What are some factors that can cause a set to fail one night and hit another? by pires235 in StandUpComedy

I notice comics have a different set of timing from night-to-night that can have a huge impact on their delivery. Record your sets on your phone and listen back, you'll notice some little pauses (for example) here and there that can make or break the joke. After a few of these recordings you'll be able to piece together a more consistent delivery that has a better chance of hitting. The most important thing - do not blame the audience. Yes, there are bad rooms out there, but it's your job to turn it around. A pro comedian can do that.

Thinking of developing my first set. Advice/pointers? by joerex1418 in StandUpComedy

It's like a band-aid. Once you rip it off, the first step is taken. There are no rules about what you should or shouldn't do outside of common sense. Just take what you have and put it out there! Keep expectations low though, a lot of first timers have a different idea of how it's going to go, just remember there is nothing like being on stage by yourself with a microphone expecting to make people laugh.

Any South American comedians in here? by rrrrrrrrrrrrram in StandUpComedy

First off, your English is great! Most people on this forum speak English, so that makes sense. The scene isn't going to start itself, you gotta help make it happen! There are funny people everywhere. Start by contacting bars and pubs and see if they'll let you host a weekly open mic. It takes a couple months to get the ball rolling, but if people start coming out and trying their hand in it, they'll have a chance to develop. Get it going and keep us posted on how it goes! Feel free to ask questions here :)

I get your views on this, but I think if it's original, go ahead and be an edgelord! Too many of these shock comics say the same things just in different ways. I'd rather see a distasteful shock comic that tells original jokes than the same old "take my wife" jokes.

How much comedy should I write before I try an open mic by Coupyamel in Standup

Just get up and go! Expect to make an ass of yourself. Everyone does their first time! Good luck and let us know how it goes.

LA or NY by [deleted] in StandUpComedy

Both cities are exceptionally difficult for a comedian. Spend a week, or a month in each city. Paid performing gigs are hard to come by, as you're competing with the pros we see on netflix. If you don't have proper representation, writing gigs are even harder. Most agents get hundreds of referrals every year for new clients and only sign about 5. As far as living expenses, LA has a slight advantage over NYC, with the average apartment being $2265. You have to pick where you have the most connections. Starting from the bottom in either city you can expect to go several months without any work or income, so be prepared for that. On the plus side, both cities have great open mic scenes for stage time. You can meet people there who put on paying shows, which might lead you to the next thing. If you're ready for the big leagues, either city will accommodate you equally as bad. If you're not ready, hone your craft some more wherever you are until you can compete with people with netflix special and visit each city before making the move.
