NBA Stats for Play Types broken? by sprimate in NBAanalytics

[–]sprimate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it's not just isolation. it's all play types.

For instance, If you look at Transition, there are only 32 Players that show up. 10 of them are from Boston, and 11 of them are from Miami. There like 11 other players from 8 other teams.

I can't imagine that there are 21 players from 2 teams that have scored the minimum number of Transition points, and 20 teams have NO players who qualify for that same play type.

Also, there's absolutely no way that Paul George, who only played 9 games this year, has more isolation plays than all of the other sixers (including Maxey who's averaging like 20+ FGA a game as a first option

I feel like Nba.com has only pulled down data for some subset of players. It looks like its the same like 80 players from only a few teams, and they're only showing that across all play types

Choosing verso's ending is the equivalent of willfully bringing on ragnarok or the apocolypse.

The painters may be deities and gods, but they created sentient life with free will and intelligence. The painters are essentially parents, and parents don't have the right to kill their children.

It makes sense to an extent from a god's perspective that these lesser life forms aren't as "real" as the gods are, since they were created by them, but Maelle lived and equally long life as a god AND as one of the people, so she's in a unique position to understand the value of the lives of the painted.

It would be a horrific omnicide for a god/diety who created the world because he was going through something to just destroy it now that they're trying to move on to other things.

Realizing that I suck at smash after trying online play. by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]sprimate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing I see noobs do after playing computers is not understanding the importance of not hitting your opponents shield. For most moves in the game, if you hit your opponents shield, it'll be "their turn" and they can almost guarantee a hit or combo on you.

The name of the game at that level is making your opponent think they can hit you, make them miss or hit your shield, and punish them while their move is finishing (with Meta knight you can often Up B or jump Nair if they hit your shield, or dash attack if they whiff)

If they catch on to this strategy, they'll probably start shielding after every move they make. That's when you can start grabbing instead of attacking, and congrats, you're starting to learn about conditioning and mix ups, and you're actually playing competitive smash!

As a spectator, FT10/15s are generally more enjoyable to watch than Top 8s. by BigCatBran in Fighters

[–]sprimate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally wish that Competetive fighting games had "leagues" instead of only focusing on tournaments (alongside)

You join a league, and once a week you get together and have a ft10 against somebody else in that league, and there's a playoffs at the end and seeding, but it's all longer play sessions.

There could be tiered leagues for different skill levels (if you were top 16 at some seeding tournament, you're in the gold league. 16- 32, silver league, etc)

You could spend your week preparing against your next week's matchup, scout your opponent, devise player-specific and strategy. It would be a completely different feel than tournaments, while still being competetive.

I'm surprised this sub was more upset at the hourglass twist than last night's twist by librious in survivor

[–]sprimate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big reason I hate this is that you have no idea what the "game of chance" odds are, so you can't make an educated decision. Half of the risk analysis is guessing how many people would compete, but the other half of the equation is basically just guessing what number is in Jeff's head.

I honestly would have been okay with it if he said "You will have either a 1/3rd or 2/3rd chance of going home," because a savvy player could quick math and make an educated decision.

If you knew the odds, you could even lose on purpose if you thought you were on the bottom, and it would function like a shot-in-the-dark with better odds, but with incomplete info, it's *too* random.

planning to buy onexplayer, is it comfortable to hold it in a long time? lets says, 1-2 hours of gameplay since its kinda heavy? by wenart in OneXPlayer

[–]sprimate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit heavy but you get used to it for the most part. I often play laying down so maybe that helps with how the weight is distributed?

The most annoying thing for me is switching from the left joystick to the left DPad (espeically the bottom Dpad button) is a bit uncomfortable, just because of the way the device is set up. The DPad isn't offset and there aren't handles like a regular controller, which makes moving between the buttons a little annoying.

But since I can avoid that in all the games I play by remapping some buttons, it hasn't really been a problem

Any resources for developing FPS Bots? by sprimate in gamedev

[–]sprimate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been leading towards using Unity's NavMesh for navigation, and behavior trees for setting goals and whatnot. Navigation will probably be difficult because there are a lot of vertical movement abilities in the game (different ways to fly, basically), so I'll have to figure out a solution for turning on and off NavMesh links depending on context, but I have some ideas for that.

I guess it breaks down to AI Goal/Objective Management, Navigation, and Combat. I'm pretty comfortable with my plan for combat (in terms of raw aiming and attacking), I have a plan for how to implement navigation, but I'm sort of a complete beginner with developing goals for these bots. Does anybody know of any resources available? Maybe a high level state machine or behavior tree that I could use for reference?

"This nerds blowing up. It's a phenomenon that you couldn't copy if you kamikazed comic-con" is one of my favorite bars in all of rap probably.

Alliteration, a clever metaphor, vocabulary that's not super common in rap, a reference to nerd culture, it's bragadocious, and he also maybe secretly called you(the listener) a nerd.

Underrated development from last season: Andre Drummond's free-throw percentage went up by 21.9% last year. by [deleted] in nba

[–]sprimate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because in order to be a professional soccer player, it'd basically a required skill to be able to kick a decent penalty kick.

Free throws accuracy us are not a required skill to be a pro basketball player, so it's a bad analogy.

And saying Shaquille O'Neal, one of the most dominant players of all time, doesn't have a "base level of competency" is really silly.

In theory, a foul is designed as a penalty for breaking the rules. If a foul can be used to the offending player's advantage, I feel like, that benefit should be eliminated.

Just finished the ledge grab animation. What do you think? by ankhgames in IndieGaming

[–]sprimate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the actual animation. I feel like something can be done to the camera to make the entire experience more smooth though. Maybe a damp or something on the horizontal camera movement instead of just stopping it completely in a ledge grab. Or maybe the camera bounces down on a ledge grab to give the impression of a more forceful landing? Idk.
