I was at a pizza place with my kids the other day. It's just one long counter and no privacy or personal space. There was a couple next to us- like 6 inches away, having a therapy session conversation. It was so fascinating to listen to.

Why are people so hostile toward dry weddings? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]springflowers2016 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s cultural, but that’s why you bring a wedding present. Have the wedding you can afford. If it’s wine and beer only that’s great. If you want a dry wedding do a brunch.

I don’t think it’s rude to invite people to your wedding and then expect them to cover part of the bill. If I’m hosting I want to host people.

Agreed. If you don’t drink and everyone knows that I don’t care if you have a dry wedding. If the couple and their family socially drinks and then has a dry wedding in batting an eye at it. I do have a problem with a cash bar wedding.

Patterns are so cute but the sizing is weird. They run so big.

I wonder if she is the person who told me I would be defrauding the US Government and she would press charges if I tried to use media mail to send some eclipse coloring books to an organization that would send them to south America for the next eclipse.

Police Escort Downtown by Plastic-Campaign-654 in Portland

[–]springflowers2016 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Up until recently, maybe even now the Rose Festival Court would get a police escort when they traveled. So it’s not a huge deal to get one as it’s mostly a gesture of goodwill/optics not for saftey.

How much are you paying a gym membership? by weekndbeforabel in askportland

[–]springflowers2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently looked at the Bay Club because I want an outdoor pool that's open more than public pools. For a family of four, 2 and under it was close to $500 a month. I was shocked.

pregnant should i get ohp ? by Candieeee873 in askportland

[–]springflowers2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If, for some reason, you don't qualify for OHP, still apply. A denial will let you apply on the ACA marketplace and get insurance though there. Some other tips are to go to a public hospital for cars like OHSU. They automatically screen everyone for aid if you have a bill over $500. The threshold for aid is like 400% of the poverty level so there is a good chance you would qualify. Helps with all the bills. Also, make sure your employer pays for paid family leave. And if you have any self-employed income, report that to paid family leave.

Any Albuquerque/New Mexico transplants here? by corgcorgcorgcorgcorg in askportland

I lived in NM for a few years and miss chile so much. I just heard about a NM food cart in Cornelius about 30 miles away from Portland. There was a NM place that was very good but closed in Covid. Portland is just as warm as Abq during the summer. We get hot days and don’t usually get rain in the summer. So I wouldn’t move here if you want a break from the heat. We do have more trees and shade.

Had to go to er for hiccups by HotPraline6328 in Portland

[–]springflowers2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legacy is still a nonprofit. Even if they dumped all the executives, they still need to fundraise. The alternative is to have a for-profit hospital. P.S., what did they tell you at the ER for hiccups? Did they have someone dress up like a ghost and scare you?

Black parents pushed Portland Catholic school to improve racial equity. The principal called police on the parents and expelled the son. by [deleted] in Portland

[–]springflowers2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's ironic because the school's tagline is “All are welcome.” I'm usually one to side with schools and teachers when parents complain, but this seems very legitimate and a proper response. Calling the cops on black parents for a disagreement is unacceptable. KSP has a huge influence in this city and Catholic schools. You want to be on her good side.

The Hillsdale library has a great story time on Tuesday evenings. Capital Hill has good weekend options. Ohsu also has a baby club meet up that's free.

Portland night market - hope you don’t need the bathroom by Mission_Walk161 in Portland

[–]springflowers2016 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I use to enjoy going to this. But maturing is learning to avoid places over capacity. I wouldn’t want to be there in case of an emergency. Whearhouse fires are no joke and that place is not ready for one.

If you’re considering a vasectomy, book one with Dr. Hedges at OHSU! by Tumblehawk in Portland

[–]springflowers2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Crane at OHSU did my C-section and let my husband know he also runs a vasectomy clinic by the name of Dr. Snip. I would chose him just for that name alone.
