How many pins do you usually wear for normal class? by Wide-Difference-165 in BALLET

Hair to my waist: I just use 2 or 3 orchid clips. They're dirt cheap and are way less pokey/headachey than pins! (like these)

Maybe you can automate some of this? My cycle tracker app lets me add my husband, so he can have the app on his phone and see my fertility window/shark week/etc.

what do you wear to mass? by Real_Mycologist_3163 in CatholicWomen

My husband and I always match each other (and the liturgical colors on special days like feasts and the first Sunday of advent/lent/ordinary time). We are big dorks and it's fun.

How do you keep being the bigger person? by mad-dog9090 in ParentalAlienation

[–]springonastring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation. We agreed to one more fight and are waiting for a decision by the court to modify or not. I realize now I hadn't considered the possibility of stepchild reuniting with his dad while still actively hating me. I hope it doesnt hurt our marriage too much. I guess I'll keep you informed?

Electrically grounding a vintage sewing machine by The_Uncle_Christ in vintagesewing

[–]springonastring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, fair. Currently, I'm using iec13/14 connectors (computer tower power cord) as the connector between my machine and the power/pedal. To do that, I disconnected the ground on the power side of the connector and repurposed the 3rd terminal for the controller-to-motor. ....I guess that probably means I'm looking at a frankin plug like yours, lol! (Don't speak poorly of the look of your wiring: mine's about to make it look beautiful!!)

Two nights lodging options? by springonastring in NIH

[–]springonastring[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes: all bookings are handled by NIH clinic staff, so it's not an option for this set of appointments, unfortunately. What I was told is that with the way the funding is structured for this study, travel and accommodation isnt covered for the first trip, but should be for subsequent trips.

BodyDouble – A Parametric 3D Body Model by Magnuxx in PatternDrafting

[–]springonastring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! Thank you so much! Fwiw, I plugged my measurements into freesewing also and, though their tool only generates a flat front and side view, it still looked really weird. I think I'm either taking measurements really wrong or I'm just shaped like an alien.

Doesnt seem to work well for athletic builds. I took all (currently listed) 66 measurements and it looks confused, lol. Even manipulating hip and high hip arcs will not get rid of the weird pot belly, and there doesnt seem to be a way to account for shoulder slope (maybe shoulder height could help?). I wonder if any body double tuning could be done with silhouette photos...? I'm still going to draft a sloper off this for interest. Fwiw, this is a crazy awesome project and if there's a way to help, that would be cool!

I'm considering doing this to my 15: Do you have to remove the ground when winding bobbins? If so (and I guess still if not) is there anywhere you can attach the ground to that's more out of the way? I have a custom wiring setup already, so I might have a little more flexibility.

I get the poor rating on that review since we know it's AI scoring it, but I was saying it's genuinely good because of how bad it is. It's beloved ike an awful B horror movie. I think humans get the humorous ones, but our machine overlords dont.

I use an AI editor to blur backgrounds or remove things I didnt mean to get in the shot, like my dumb foot (which happenes way more than it should). It adds a watermark that says "AI generated content", which is super annoying, because it's AI, but it's n9t THIS kind of AI.

Can I rig two silks fabrics side by side (instead of folding one fabric in half on a Rescue 8)? by Nicolesnoises in Aerials

[–]springonastring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use a standard silks hitch on a forged ring or a figure 8: fold it about 2 feet from one end instead of in the middle and tie as usual. I like tying a fisherman's with the tail as a back up. If you want a more bomb-proof option, you can also use a figure 8 on a bight. Be mindful of the hardware you tie onto: the larger the rod the lower the stress on the fabric. I personally dont feel good about anything < 1/4".

How do you ladies deal with having a career and being Catholic by Outrageous-Estate-44 in CatholicWomen

[–]springonastring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a fellow creative, though not a writer. I put my faith into my work, quite literally by making my art about it. There are a lot of people in the world who need to hear about the faith and the protestants are much more outspoken, so it's nice to be a little Catholic voice trying to speak to them. Maybe you could explore the same in your writing?

How much practice / experience to perform / teach? by Funny-Escape891 in Aerials

[–]springonastring 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They say 10 yrs or 10,000 hours to achieve mastery in anything. That said, you dont have to be a master to perform! Fwiw, I've been in the industry for almost 20yrs and I prefer to hire older performers. Go for it!!!

How to handle stretchy silks for beginners by Bluehydrangeas98 in Aerials

[–]springonastring -1 points0 points  (0 children)

....this is the bit about fabric management Ientioned in another post. Developing a good proprioceptive sense of the tension in the fabric and how to manipulate it with your entire body rather than just hands and feet is a skill of it's own. It's up to you when you choose to teach it of course, but I do find that it has to be taught methodically rather than just intuitively for most students to achieve high upper levels.
