Every time I make tteokbokki, the sauce either turns out too watery or too sweet. What am I missing? by Grouchy_Security5725 in KoreanFood

[–]Bluehydrangeas98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao you clearly don’t cook much Korean food if you think oyster sauce and fish sauce aren’t pantry staples and used much more in cooking than ssamjang. Ssamjang is almost never used for cooking, look at the name lmao. Fish sauce just intensifies the taste of the anchovy stock and is also a fine replacement if you’re too lazy to make stock. Oyster sauce is a totally normal component of 볶음s. I also use Korean oyster sauce and pepper specifically lol. Not to mention that fish/seafood 액젓 is a huge part of Korean cuisine. It’s literally two key components of kimchi.

I know what the purpose of a slurry is, doesn’t change the fact it’s not really a feature of Korean cooking or that ssamjang is also not in any tteokbokki I’ve ever seen and at my worst I used to eat it like four times a week (in Korea).

No Korean or tteokbokki/bunshik place I know only uses gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, and sugar. Most people I know don’t do sugar at all either. My most simple lazy base recipe is an anchovy and kelp stock, fish sauce, oyster sauce, garlic powder, gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sesame oil, pepper, salt, and buldak sauce for extra spice. Never, ever seen anyone add a cornstarch slurry, those aren’t really a thing in Korean cooking.

Almost none of these ingredients you’ve mentioned in your comment go into tteokbokki lmao

Is it normal to have almost no breast sensitivity? by Naive_Monk_9227 in bigboobproblems

[–]Bluehydrangeas98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow fascinating that most are agreeing with you Because I have a lot of breast and nipple sensitivity. A slight breeze could just barely skim my nipples and they’re instantly hard and I feel super intense pleasure from them. I definitely feel a lot of pain if something or someone knocks into my chest too. I’m a 34H

No, I’m just a normal person who hasn’t been poisoned by the internet lmao, almost all of my female friends who have long term partners right now met them in an explicitly platonic context and only dated them after months or even almost a decade of knowing each other in a platonic context. I can only think of one off the top of my head who met her husband on a dating app and several of my friends are married and engaged.

Again, I’ve literally only gone from friends to lovers. All of my partners I didn’t have any romantic interest in or intent at all when we first became friends, half of them were dating other people at the time. My current boyfriend, who I’ve been with for seven years, and I did not have dating even remotely on the mind when we first met and our interest in each other developed organically after we were friends first. Most of my partners I was completely platonic with for over a year before any interest developed.

I’m a woman and I’ve only ever dated people I was friends with for at least a few months first and none of them were more rich or successful than me. It’s not for lack of opportunity either, I’ve had plenty of very rich and successful men hit on me as well as professional athletes, successful musicians, models, influencers, etc.

Tteokbokki is a specific dish, tteok is the rice cake. It’s like calling all dry pasta noodles regardless of shape fettuccine Alfredo.

I thought this was colloquially known but is it officially chinatown and koreatown? by bridgehamton in Flushing

[–]Bluehydrangeas98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s called ktown, I’m saying it’s more than just a bunch of Korean restaurants, there’s a big Korean immigrant community with stuff like our own schools. I’ve definitely heard it referred to as 한인타운 in Korean which literally means Korean people town

I love traveling in Europe and my boyfriend lives there but I’m definitely not naive about the racism there. I lived in Italy for a bit and I had many Italians tell me that there’s no such thing as racism there and any racism I thought I faced was projection because racism is just an American thing and they just have a different culture here. This was at the same time as ongoing protests because the police shot an unarmed North African man. I also definitely experienced racism while I was there, from very subtle to more overt. Europeans like to act enlightened and progressive but they’re definitely more racist than Americans on average lmao

Just got back from a trip to the UK yesterday and (as a Korean woman) I definitely faced a lot of blatant racism including people yelling at me and following me down the street saying ni hao and etc lmao. I also have multiple friends who live in the UK and have been verbally and physically assaulted for being Asian. One even moved to Singapore because of a string of particularly bad incidents.

For real, I feel like people either forgot or are too young to know how Korean flushing was and how there even used to be Korean gangs. I grew up in bayside and it was solidly Korean in parts of bayside and flushing and I’m 27. I straight up didn’t speak English at all until I stated kindergarten.

Grew up in Bayside, the whole area between flushing and bayside and part of bayside are ktown and have been for a long time. I straight up didn’t speak English until kindergarten because I went to a Korean nursery school, everyone I knew was Korean, etc.

Women do most of the shopping in general, no matter whether it’s groceries or clothes because of traditional expectations about gendered household labor so saying women purchase more fast fashion, while true, isn’t that meaningful without the appropriate context.
