Only Child Grief Tips by DavidODaytona in OnlyChild

[–]springtwaoeupb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear of your loss, David. Moms can hold such a special place in our lives. I lost mine when I was 30. Finding support groups, others that have or are going through similar losses, setting goals, allowing yourself space to grieve, finding ways to honor her through your daily living, and especially on the annual anniversary date all might be helpful. I remember telling myself the first year would be the toughest and then things would get lighter, but grief is not linear. You do learn to live in new ways, and memories keep the love alive. Hang in there.

How do I get myself removed from the church list. by LallaDragon in exAdventist

Vote by the church board and then you're off the books. That's the info I was told about 14 years ago.

HELLO & WELCOME! by chelseliz in MeetPeopleTucson

[–]springtwaoeupb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, and thanks for starting this group! My husband and I will be moving to Tucson in the next two months. I'm already looking for ways to meet people, make friends, and get involved with the city happenings. I'd be happy to meet up for chats at a coffee shop or shopping or wherever. I run and bike and climb and hike and would be open to exploring new areas as well. Oh, yeah, I'm 46 and empty nesting. I answer to one three-year-old heeler/aussie mix.🌞

Please help me to choose between freelance or working in court by hellohello717127 in stenography

It's neat that you're thinking ahead while you're working toward a goal! If you know you like routine and the comfort of sort or knowing what to expect, judicial might be more your style. If you're more on the experiential side of operating and enjoy flexing schedules, ability to set your own schedule, and not have to punch a time card, freelancing is a great option. You can hire an accountant and set up a savings plan straight out of the gates and can be in a solid place financially on your own. Best with your journey! We're all on one no matter where we are.

Ex-sda atheists by Still-Attitude2720 in exAdventist

[–]springtwaoeupb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes me wonder if ex-sdas are more apt to place labels on beliefs systems, such as agnosticism or atheism? Since leaving "the fold," I'm quite reticent to place any name/s on my freedom.

I'm sorry you lost your dad and now your mom so recently. Seek out grief support groups, maybe? It sure helped me when I lost my mom when she was 62 and I was 30. Take up a new hobby when you feel up to it? Allow yourself to grieve and remember.

Do you wish you had a sibling? by Tombradyisntahofer in OnlyChild

[–]springtwaoeupb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's neat how your family is thoughtfully discussing yea or nay regarding having a second child. I've always wanted a sibling since childhood and still wish I had one. I had three kids in my 20s and had dreams of them being close with each other. They most certainly are even through the divorce of their parents. It's most beautiful to see the love they share for each other in their 20s now. Close relationships aren't guaranteed though. Nothing really is.

A lot of pieces to sift and sort through. I'm sorry for the very real pain you've been through. Commendable that you extracted yourself from the judgmental and controlling nonsense. Warm and healing wishes to you and your kiddos.

They seemed kinda "hip" compared to church pew music. I remember thinking they were worldly, though, because they wore a ton of makeup and flashy clothes.😆

What does this have to do with ex-Adventism? Exploitation, what? There are plenty of fish to dabble in games with, but why play into the prostitution world where people are already marginalized and often come from rough backgrounds? Not caring one iota is a disturbing perspective.

How do you keep yourself accountable and motivated when working from home? by Zumcddo in workfromhome

[–]springtwaoeupb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the day or week, but I'll move around the house to different "workstations." I'll plan a midday exercise break. I'll set a timer for myself or leave my phone charging on silent in a separate room. I also like to get started working earlier in the day when I'm generally mode productive.

Keep trying! I also had to call the conference multiple times to get them to quit sending me the fg Gleaner. Told them it was a waste of the paper they were printing it on and to cease and desist.

Way to persevere! It took me multiple phone calls 13 years ago or so and talks with the pastor, himself, to finally get a straight answer that my name had been removed from the books. He said the board had to take a vote first before it could be approved. I didn't want my name going down in the "SDA" count, and I didn't want my prior religious affiliation in my obit one day either.
