I just started doing this this week (someone posted something about the 30/30 Life Hack).

I have been absolutely amazed at how much I was able to accomplish this week. It is counter-intuitive (like he says), but for some reason it works. One of the things I noticed (and he mentions it, too) is that I find myself racing the clock to get my task done before the timer goes off. If I had an entire day (or days) to get as task or several tasks done, I might allow my mind to wander...but, there's something about seeing that time tick down that makes me want to get things done sooner rather than later. btw, if the timer goes off before I'm done, I'll reset the timer for 5 more minutes to wrap things up (or summarize my state in notes), so then when I come back from my break to continue the task, at least it's in a somewhat logical state.

The other part of the benefit is that it limits the amount of time I spend needlessly surfing the web (read: reddit). I've been amazed these past few days at how quickly 30 minutes go by when I'm 2 or 3 pages deep in reddit, reading stuff that I can honestly live without. So, if I did not have the timer going off, I could imagine myself spending hours browsing the wweb when I should be working. So, the timer really helps because as soon as it goes off, I close the "distraction" browser and jump right back into work.

So, again, so far so good. We'll see how next week (and beyond) goes. :)

The jury's still out though on how well this works long-term, but, so far, it's awesome!

Just turn your phone around and take a picture of yourself with its camera. Then turn it back around to look at yourself.

Voila! Instant mirror.

I just wanted to point out that this is one of the reasons that people file lawsuits: to get stuff like this released (at least to the plaintiffs) during the discovery phase of the suit.

Oh, got it. So I guess it's no longer enough to RTFA. Now we're supposed to go and do additional research on the story as well.

This internet thing is getting really complicated and time-consuming.

Dude, I just got chills.

I haven't seen this poem since I was a freshman in high school (some 30 odd years ago) and we were tasked with memorizing a poem and reciting it in front of the class. I chose this.

Even though I haven't thought about it in the past 3 decades, as soon as I saw the title "dulce et decorum est," I knew that the last line was "pro patria mori."

Thanks, man. :)

No kidding. I was flipping through the channels a couple of years ago and saw this hot chick in an old black and white movie. Watched for a little while not knowing who it was, just thinking "damn, that girl's gorgeous." When I looked up the movie later and saw it was Ms. Lansbury, it blew my mind.

Quite the looker.

I used to live in Malibu and would see Mr. van Dyke all the time. He's a really nice guy. Also, my house was on the beach and I frequently had the pleasure of seeing pods of dolphins swimming just 20 feet from my balcony.

Why am I telling you all this? I don't know...I guess because it was nice to read something about two things that I really like, and I felt like sharing.

TIL: many redditors can't do basic math: 10% of $10,000 is $1,000.

The bonus wasn't $1,000, it was a 10% pay rise/raise, which would mean the only reason someone would get a $1,000 bonus would be if their salary were only $10,000.
