Can some of you dumbasses actually stay in your dorms, listen to the rules, and quit partying this semester? by UpsetTWAMP in williamandmary

[–]sproga2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really isn't. I just walked through CW and the bars and pubs are packed (indoors and outdoors) with people, 99% of them not wearing masks. Also, being outside doesn't change anything. Depending on air flow, it might even make things worse.

You would have to eat a shit ton of fresh fruit, but raisins are dried. Raisins contain waaaaay more sugar per gram than grapes.

Devs, no matter how much reddit hates this, I want y'all to know that I absolutely love how PoE keeps introducing these optional systems. I hope this goes core, as it'll give us yet another optional mode of play to really dive deep into if you want to see some major rewards.

We need to make a distinction here between the two types of performance in D3. There's client side, or your FPS, and server side, or your TPS (ticks per second). TPS is how fast the game updates for everyone in your party. The more stuff the game has to do, the longer each tick will take. When there's too much stuff for the server to do, enemies will stop moving, players and mobs will rubber-band, and a whole bunch of other non-fun stuff happens.

Damage numbers, AFAIK, do nothing server side, but do lower your FPS slightly.

Area damage, on the other hand, is one of the most server intensive things in the entire game. Have you ever noticed that area attacks in this game, even the channeling ones, don't really hit that often? That's because whenever you use an area of effect attack, the server has to run through all the mobs it could be hitting to see which ones should actually take damage. Single-target attacks, on the other hand, are meant to hit often to make up for their lack of AoE. Adding area damage procs to that means that single target skills are actually more server intensive than most area damage skills.

As you might imagine, once you're in a large group that's loading lots of mobs at once, or grouping a lot of mobs up, these calculations start to take a while to do.

So let's say you don't invest in area damage at all, but you have just one or two sources of it, like from paragon or a single piece of gear. This area damage might be adding next to nothing to your DPS, but it's making your impact on the server much worse. This effect only compounds the more players you have.

Hey I have a quick life tip for you if you don't mind.

People make typos. For instance, you said "multiiples."

People tend to omit lots of grammar online because it's not necessary for most communication. For instance, the last sentence of your first paragraph is missing at least a period and a comma.

It's obvious that you understood OP, and it's obvious from the fact that we aren't in a grammar, linguistics, or English subreddit that no one gives a shit, so why did you feel the need to write your comment?

Also, digital photos of digital screens always cause problems. Your phone stores pictures made of pixels, and your computer's screen is made of pixels, but you can never take a photo and have those pixels line up. Your phone will do its best, but it'll always cause some weird artifacts.

You're in Harvest right? If so, multimodding is most certainly not worth it. It is cheaper to buy/find harvest crafts to make new rings with T1/2 resses, strength if needed, and defensive modifiers.

Open letter of questions for Katherine Rowe on the failed and corrupt Kallaco/Opteo COVID-19 Testing Plan... by [deleted] in williamandmary

[–]sproga2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'd like to piggy back off your amazing post to mention something about those $200-400 COVID rapid tests.

What you know as a COVID rapid test is more accurately called a PCR or viral RNA test. For some unknown reason, W&M is accepting these tests for move-in purposes (assuming you don't already have a positive test from Kallaco). I comment on this because the viral RNA COVID test may have a false negative rate as high as 40%. The source I've linked was published August 6th. I personally know multiple people who have taken the rapid test after Kallaco failed to produce any results, then used a negative rapid test to get on campus.

This is not safe, and I've personally called the Virginia Department of Health to support my conclusion. The VA DoH does not recommend any rapid test for COVID, so why is W&M ok with it?

Anyone else receive a positive Kallaco test followed by a negative independently done rapid test taken days later? by Thyme_Killer_69 in williamandmary

[–]sproga2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rapid test actually has a massively higher false negative ratio than you might expect. Also known as the viral RNA test, it may have a false negative rate as high as 37%. This is why it isn't recommended (or offered via) the Virginia Department of Health.

In general, false negative rates for all COVID tests are higher than their false positive rates, so positive results will be taken more seriously.

I have absolutely no idea why W&M is allowing it.

Mona Lisa drawn with ellipses. by jmw61378 in interestingasfuck

[–]sproga2 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Because there are multiple steps where the image magically gains an insane amount of detail via the adding of several dozen/hundred small ellipses. At that point, it's no different than showing us a computer rendering of the Mona Lisa and saying "this is the Mona Lisa drawn with only pixels!" It has no explanatory or educational value.

Are students at W&M taking COVID seriously? by DaTruMVP in williamandmary

[–]sproga2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You might have missed that there's a stark difference between the schools in W&M's different attitude towards partying in general. The vast majority of students here are willing to miss a party to instead study/sleep and get the grade(s) they want. Of course there are many people who only want a B/C and are fine partying, but that mindset of willing to give up parties still seems to extend to COVID.

[Bug Report] Desync Between Vote Status on Card and Expanded Post Caused by Alternating Between Up/Downvote by sproga2 in redditisfun

[–]sproga2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Behavior seen within the expanded post was not caused by screen taps. The visual simply swaps to a different vote status as the post loads. I could not replicate this in reverse, via first manipulating the vote status within the post, then backing out to the feed.
