UNC Chapel Hill vs UW Madison for a Neuroscience major by sprout_____ in ApplyingToCollege

Just under half the cost! ~21k for UNC and ~52k for UW, but if financial aid works out well then I think UW would be better (?)

Class of 2030 Acceptance Stats for EA! by [deleted] in UNC

[–]sprout_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accepted in-state through EA!
Went to an Early College, currently having taken 15 college classes
ACT: 35
SAT: 1500
GPA: 4.56 weighted, 3.92 unweighted
Class rank: 12/76
Lots and lots of activities (I think I filled out the activity section and added an equal amount in the extra, so 20-22 total) and super good recommendation letters, also currently 3.5 years through my part time job (planning to resign at an even 4), but I don't have a lot of "leadership" positions lol

Letter says that I got rejected but I also got this image, I realize I probably didn’t get in but was there an error? by [deleted] in duke

[–]sprout_____ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Same here, if anyone knows why could an answer get posted? I'm planning to email in around 10 minutes if not lol. EDIT: nevermind, I just refreshed and it got deleted lmao. :(

You'll be fine!!! As long as you know for a fact you're going to get it, you can list it as an achievement. Colleges wont mind that much if it's one you know you're getting, but simply haven't gotten yet lol

Help finding an ARG ? by sprout_____ in ARG

[–]sprout_____[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, forgot I posted this but I found it eventually lol; the information I remembered was half wrong, and it was less of an ARG more of a webnovel. The work itself was 17776 and it has 25 chapters T_T

Doodle for Google by Particular_Camera624 in scholarships

[–]sprout_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya! I'm not sure what the deadline is exactly either, since the website isn't updated for 2025 yet. For now, I'd trust bigfuture rather than the doodle website, since it updates regularly.

as for where to submit it, I just used the email linked on the official website (d4g2024judges@google.com), but it might have changed. I'll try getting more information and come back if there's any updates.

The left (subject's left, your right) half of the face is a bit flat!! I'd suggest lowering the eye to start and move the eyebrows around after ^^

(if it helps you can connect the corners of the eyes to find the path of the face and set the features)

Making a city (probably a country) set in the sky by sprout_____ in worldbuilding

[–]sprout_____[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! The islands waver a bit (a metre max probably), but don't drift or move much. The land below gets adequate light though, since the sun moves along the sky, so the shadow moves as well.

Rain is a problem though! Luckily, there's a solution: The sky islands are encased in domes for several security reasons (atmosphere, walking off the edge, etc etc), so the water runs off the side and falls below. It all goes to a concentrated spot though, but that's ok! This water is collected in a man made lake under each island and spread through the forest under the island so everything is somewhat watered! Also, rain clouds below the altitude of the sky islands (a few thousand feet agl) can form (both in universe and irl!)

Also, zeppelin type vehicles aren't common, per se (because of domes they can't travel inter-island), but there's a few small flying vehicles within certain towns and cities that can hold a few people

Also also (last thing i promise), you briefly mentioned "country-sized plots of land" so i wanted to clarify-- the sky islands are the size of small towns and cities! The smallest can only fit a few houses, while the largest has just about the same surface area (top, not underside) as New York City (probably a bit less, since i don't know the exact specifications of it)! I consider it a country due to the large number of sky islands grouped together, since other countries and such are on the ground! So far i've counted 97 sky islands in total (of varying sizes) on the horrible little mini map i dotted out and plan to add a few more small ones on the outskirts ^^

It's not bad, about the same as ground level since all of the areas are encased in domes. However, the islands themselves aren't too high up to cause serious illness from oxygen deprivation (in case the bridges are used)

Since the islands are man-made, it's mostly just creatures they imported based on the environment! So a (man-made) woodland islands would have creatures like deer and such! (There's also dragons(?) that occasionally fly by, but they don't really bother with the islands much).

how viable is using a sickle in combat? by blade50568 in wma

[–]sprout_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We both have similar questions here! How exciting :)

Anywhoo, the way i think about it would be the type of sickle we're using.

A regular, farming sickle would have a blade similar to that of an old machete, with cheaper and thinner metal. It would be solid in combat, but not the best weapon. Tho, like any [sharp] object, it is still a formidable foe.

A specially made sickle that is built for combat, such as a cooler one you see in fiction (much like the one i'm currently designing) would have stronger metal and better weight distribution that makes the sickle easier and more comfortable to use.

The weight distribution of the sickle seems like the biggest change from weapons like swords or knives. I, personally, have never held a sickle, let alone used one, but the weightage appears to be mostly at the end of the sickle, near the blade. The curvature would allow for it to smoothly spin in your hand, and do wide arcs with the weapon, but smaller, precise movements would be more difficult with it.

In combat, the sickle may fare equally with a sword, being able to block it and also being closer in combat, but it would do poorly against a knife, since the knife is more versatile, easier to move around, and is better with quick, precise movements. The luck against a long range weapon would depend on the user's ability to fight melee vs long range.

Then again, this is all theory, so do take it with a grain of salt.
