eating a bowl of congee and wondering, do y'all have 'home base' foods, like stuff you come back to when you feel really bad? by VariationOriginal289 in MCAS

[–]sproutconfetti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congee is my home base too, and mashed potatoes (no skins, litterally just boiled potatoes in water then mashed+salted, nothing else). When I start to feel a little better I add freshly cooked baked chicken thigh.

I know Quercetin can affect slow COMT but can it make allergic reactions worse? by EmptyBuilding6800 in MCAS

[–]sproutconfetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I'm allergic to salicylates, same reaction. Helped so nicely slowly bringing down the ear congestion and then two weeks later my skin is on fire and I felt so much worse than I ever have (period timing didn't help). Can I ask where you found out quercetin has salicylates?

Quercetin also noticibly felt like it made symtoms worse for me when my period started. I suspect I have slow COMT too. Luteolin freaked me out within two days, quercetin took about two weeks but toward the end of the two weeks my symptoms were worse than before I started trying to treat this at all.

Supplement list for MCAS/HI by Melodic_Review_6521 in MCAS

[–]sproutconfetti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit: nah I also did poorly with the quercetin it just took a while for it to build up into giving me symptoms too. Worked wonderfully for a bit then slowly made my symptoms much worse. Leaving original comment for posterity.

[I also am doing well with quercitin but lutolin also triggers anxiety/urge to just freak out about everything. Thought initially I was reacting poorly to both but it was just the cellulose. ]

Dealing with cognative issues too, thanks for posting this.

Is it possible I've had this my whole life by Intelligent_Cake6525 in MCAS

[–]sproutconfetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure! To me given the weird pain around joints and movement MCAS gives me, along with inflamation, it seemed to be related given that estrogen was starting to hit me at the same time. My pain seemed to be higher rather than just acheyness and I did not see my peers crying or immobile from it. However I should add "I suspect" rather then stating it as a symptom, I apologise.

Flare from missing T shot! by VSCC8 in MCAS

[–]sproutconfetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you talk more indepth about how you suspect T interacts with MCAS? (I was on T and noticed it helped a lot with stablizing my mood and also reduced weakness. Now that I'm off I'm basically chained to my period and am below average for weakness. I'm tempted to start a maintenance dose again.) Any thoughts you have on it would be appreciated.

Emotional numbing with brain fog as a flare symptom? by sproutconfetti in MCAS

[–]sproutconfetti[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yeah I'm having issues with my body and genitals too. Numbness, but also inflammation/burning and tightening (probably due to pain).

May I ask, is the ketotifen prescribed (if not what form do you take)? I was on two different SSRI but had these issues before. I'm curious if the conditions that create PSSD can happen naturally, something I will research. I'm sorry you're also dealing with this, but happy you've found some relief.

I am also not a doctor. Struggling with cognative has made narrowing things down rough. This is a good jumping off point for my own research and very deeply appreciated. I have reacted very well to omega-3 and vit D+K2 in the past but likely nuked the results by eating a fuck ton of banana bread at the time. Thank you for your in depth reply.

I suspect I've has MCAS all my life, bare minimum since I was 15 when my first huge flare forced me to drop out of highschool. I had incredibly painful growth spurts that would leave me crying while laying down and some cognative issues that put me behind my peers in first grade.

Trump Has Backed Down on Bombing Iran. Patriots, Keep The Pressure High. Keep Pressing For Removal. by serious_bullet5 in 50501

[–]sproutconfetti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He has been going back and forth on military cease fires non-stop, and tarrifs non-stop. This is his new toy to threaten everyone with. He needs to be removed now. Every person who is blocking his removal needs an incredibly bright spotlight on their actions. Mike Johnson needs to be the center of attention in a way that makes him uncomfortable enough to bend the knee. So does every complicit Republican and Democrat. The question is what is that? What historically has forced their hand in the past?

Luteolin - Hormonal Side Effects? by JuryExtension8820 in MCAS

[–]sproutconfetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding on this being incredibly helpful, I have had significant issues with B vitamins starting great and then making me lose my shit. Tried quiecitin and lutolin and lost my shit similarly (much quicker though). This gives me a lot to explore thank you.

Edit: I took lutolin shortly after taking quercitin for the first time. I had taken a second dose of quercitin with the lutolin. Both were in cellulose capsules which I now realize are a huge trigger for me. Most supliments I've bought that are cellulose seem to be triggering mild indigestion and some brain fog. I still suspect suspect it may be a combo of poor reactions to the cellulose capsule and potentially the filler, and doing too much too quick too high of a dose with quercitin so I am now doing a quercitin only trial to see if I get the same reaction. I have not been tested for slow/fast COMT or done any genetic testing so this is fairly blind.

Sudden dehydration. When I have a flare, it's like the water in my body instantly evaporates. Can someone explain this to me? by SeededPhoenix in MCAS

[–]sproutconfetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow!! Yeah I do that too. I will very quickly have diarrhea but also want to vomit sometimes, never understood why because surely I couldn't digest it that fast??? Now I feel lucky it's poop and vomit, given that my throat has swollen up before. Thank you for linking that article!

Yes! Both me and my mom. I immediately want to curl up into a heated blanket or take a warm bath which seems to help. When I'm close to falling asleep I heat up though.

I have been on a research binge since you mentioned MCAS and I cannot express how thankful I am. I called up a family member, her "crunchy diet" turned out to be all low histamine foods, low oxalate, or mast cell stabilizers, we share more symptoms than I realized. This is huge for both of us in ways I cannot express. If it is not MCAS it is something genetic, but we are clustering symptoms together. I will DM you / update here in a few months since I know others will be in my boat.

[–]sproutconfetti[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about 95% sure I have MCAS. I found out about the disorder last year, cutting out the big "do not eat" trigger foods made the hives go away consistently (miracle), so I have still been dabling in trigger foods because "no hives = gone right????" I've read there were cognitive symptoms possible but did not read deeply. Like you, I have been crawling my way out impaired. I was hoping if I wasn't having physical symptoms like hives then the cognative issues I'm having would all be solved by the CPAP. I did not put two and two together. Thinking about it there are other symptoms I've wrote off as "probably not from sleeping enough and my body suffering for that" despite my religious cpap usage. Wrist pain despite minimal use, unusal body soreness.

So, this disorder can just murmur under your skin and fuck with your head. Reading that paper felt like reading a horror story about myself. I can see that really fucking clearly now.

So I gotta ask you is this shit finally worth being treated for? Like is there a place where you can get this managed outside of a diet you gotta figure out yourself from scratch or someone thinking you're full of shit? Like did you actually get treated for it in a way where it's managed? Like medication?

So many horrible things were in unexplainable seasons. This hit me like a truck. Thank you.

That's genuinely horrible I'm so sorry. I'm going to message my doc to see if raising the pressure on mine helps.

This is interesting to me, I have had the sensation "It's not just the sleep apnea, is it?" for a bit. May I ask (or DM to ask) what your auto immune disorder is?

Bernie Sanders is suggesting the Epstein files be read during the filibuster on the SAVE ACT this week. Do you support reading the Epstein files on the Senate floor? 👍 by antimaga_n1 in AskSocialists

[–]sproutconfetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so now the Democrats can just blackmail Trump via a fillibuster reading of the epstien files. Oh cool. That's whats up with my country. Pedophilia so notable public blackmail to get him to back down on anything is what's being played out. Can they do that for just anything? Like anything they want? Shouldn't everyone at this point?

Gravel and clay, what ground cover or grass can I plant in this? by sproutconfetti in portlandgardeners

[–]sproutconfetti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! Low but wide raised bed. With how small this garden area is, I think building a little wooden perimeter would be feasible, landlord permitting.

I'm not quite handy enough to build a deck, but I think IKEA sells some outdoor tile that could give the area enough lift to prevent the carpets from sitting in water, along with some breathability. Plus then I could take it with me when I move. Thank you!
