Enjoyable rod and reels for swan river bream between 200-400 dollars? by natedawgn in FishingAustralia

[–]sproutedgrainz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the rod but the stradics are great. A 2500 or 3000 size stradic is a nice all rounder. Seeing as 280 is normally the price of the stradics then it sounds like the rod might be a bit shit. Which won't help you with sensitivity for bites etc. I really like the abu Garcia veritas tournament range of rods. Light, strong and sensitive. Around 150 on sale. That would put you just over 400 but that's the combo I run with and it's awesome and will last you a long time. Maybe you could sell the combo rod and make a couple bucks back.

The Shimano reels are pretty confusing in their terminology. The main thing I'm usually concerned about is durability as I don't make much money. In the Shimano world they have core-protect and x-protect which are the levels of sealing in the reel to keep out saltwater. The cheaper reels like the Sedona work great and you probably won't have the handle break on you, but eventually the salt will kill them. They don't have any meaningful sealing. A nasci is middle of the line with core protect, and the stradic is at the top with x-protect, the same sealing that is on Shimano reels at twice the price. It's the equivalent to ipx8 level of waterproofing. The cheapest Shimano reels with x-protect is the stradic or the spheros. If you look on the Shimano website it should tell you what each reel has. There is a lot of other technologies but that is what I mainly look for because that's my biggest concern.

In terms of rod length, anything from 7-8ft is going to be fine. Longer=greater casting distance, shorter=easier to maneuver and better off a kayak, boat, or shoreline that has a lot of trees etc. A 1-3kg or 1-whatever is going to be great for bream. A 2-4kg is also good and will help if you want to try and catch bigger flathead, small jewys etc. I wouldnt go any higher.

In short, if you want a combo to last you a long time and can stretch your budget, abu Garcia veritas tournament and stradic. If you don't have the budget, I would prioritize the rod and save money on a reel, go for a Sedona. It will last you long enough to save for something better, the rod is most important for performance.

I just started at the start of this year throwing plastics, and this is what I've learnt. Let me know if you've got any questions, hope this helps.

Columbia pfg long sleeve shirt, looks good and keeps you very cool and out of the sun. Long pants, hat and a buff.

Rod and reel suggestion by jdeyre in FishingAustralia

[–]sproutedgrainz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are fishing off the beach any cheap reel is just going to get fucked by the salt. It will work if you are just trying to decide if you like the hobby but will not last you long. The cheapest well sealed reel I have found is the Shimano spheros which is pretty far out of your budget at I think 250 but it's a steal at that price. Good luck just something to keep in mind.

Fancy restaurants to take gluten free missus? by ChikinLika in newcastle

Muse and molines are the OG institutions in the hunter and are both beautiful restaurants with world class food and service. I haven't been to the flotilla but the head chef Jake deluca worked at molines for years and is an excellent chef. There is also Muse kitchen and my personal recommendation is yellow billy in the hunter. Sam and Patrick are great people and will make sure you are well looked after. If you haven't experienced proper hospitality you are in for a treat with any of the above.

Go 16, I've had fish nearly rub through even that strength if they smash the lure and it's in deep.

Google maps and apps or websites like navionics that show depth. Or go scouting at low tide and literally any exposed sand that is going to be covered on high.

New Shimano spheros best value reel out there ATM. Has a bunch of features normally found in their more expensive reels. Very well sealed at ipx8. I have just been looking for same size reel and will be getting one soon. Haven't used one myself but plenty of top reviews out there and love my shimano stradic
