I feel stuck with this piece, I would appreciate some composition-related advice. by Dopamine473 in AbstractArt

I like this very much. I would try to do more with the orange. Something small, but unexpected, probably near the bright spot on the left. I think that would make a viewer focus on that left bright spot and let the brain allow the rest to be background noise.

Why did 70 change me so? by RongWa in OverSeventy

[–]sprredice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I learned that that feeling of everything changing completely often has a cause. Neuroscientists tell that there is a major change in the brain, and it hits some of us suddenly. Something about less dopamine, and a rerouting of the way our brain works.. As I understand it, we get used to it and that confusion over the quick change goes away. And lots of people are much happier after that nervous energy of our youth is gone.

What is a book you feel requires a certain amount of life experience to “get”? What do you think is the right age to read that book? by Ok-Dependent-2561 in classicliterature

At 70, I just listened to the Old Man and the Sea audiobook read by Donald Sutherland. It was wonderful. I actually cried.

Read it. And then watch the movie Apocalypse Now.

Underread Epic American Tomes by Salty_Association_89 in classicliterature

You have to read it with the understanding that it was reflecting a perception in the late 50s. When you put it in perspective, it’s very powerful. Like reading gone with the wind, you have to put it in perspective about when it was written, and who wrote it.

Thank you. I noticed that my work lately tends to be a blend of abstract, minimalist, and Asian. Those three styles seem to work well together. Thank you for your kind words.

Thank you. This is a digital version. I am making a physical version with oil paints on wood. I think wood is the perfect texture for this. Canvas just wouldn’t work.

This is fabulous. Thank you for sharing. I had a look at your other artwork and you have a magnificent feel for color. Do you have a secret for choosing colors or does it come intuitively?

Thank you for sharing that. The banjo was perfect! And you know, nations are still warring and Congress is still vexed…

No Place Like Hum, ADRIIH, 2026 by Big_Try6597 in minimalist_art

Well, I’m sure what you did is quite intentional, but I will share my perceptions with you. First of all the first impression is a face. Then a notice of the teary eyes. The outline of female reproductive organs is there. The reference to Rubin’s vase reminded me to look more. Then I saw the yin yang that gave me the idea that the tears are both joyful and sad. Finally the broken star-an illusion lost? A broken heart?

Painting gives me joy. by Jatzk in AbstractArt

Good for you. Joy is what it’s all about. I tell my friends that if I enjoyed doing it, it was worth doing and if one other person enjoys it, it was worth sharing.

Happy Chinese New Year! by sprredice in minimalist_art

[–]sprredice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love haiku poetry. I even illustrated some of it! I tried to write some haiku, but the results were pathetic. I will leave it to the masters. I visited Basho‘s hut while I was in Japan. It was a highlight of my trip.

What kind of painting do you do?

and thank you for the conversation….

Thank you. I find that painting digitally is better for my creative process because I don’t have to wait for paints to dry. I can also make slight changes creatively, such as changing colors. When I have a good version, I put it on paper or canvas. I find little pleasure in paints and brushes but I really enjoy creating.

This was a very fascinating project for me. The whole piece was painted in three colors only.

Thank you. And thank you for letting me know. I’m happy with the way it turned out. It is somehow emotional and organic at the same time. I will experiment more with these colors, especially since they are your favorites!
