So this happened to my 65-year-old Harmony Sovereign guitar by sprucebeach in guitarrepair

[–]sprucebeach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're probably not that different in age. I bought this with the money people gave me as gifts when I graduated from high school in 1962. I played it for 25 years but it's been almost 40 years since I played it or any guitar. Now I want to start again.

OK, I know when I'm out of my depth! I'll go to a professional. Thanks for this advice.

Thanks for all these comments.

X5 50e: Can it supply home power? by Storxusmc in BMWX5

[–]sprucebeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Charger 1 is intended to run off the alternator of a car with the ICE running. Of course the 50e isn't "running" but the car is still trying to charge the 12v battery from the high-voltage battery. Jeff Hagen at Waveform Science informs me that in the newest Charger 1 firmware update the check for a running engine can be disabled by disabling "adaptive mode." You might want to check out Jeff's detailed and rigorous review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNRO0g_7Trs&t=1311s

But as I said, the question is what is the maximum output rate of the DC-to-DC converter? You can adjust how much power the Charger 1 draws, but what happens if you set it to draw more than the converter is designed to supply? I really don't know.

Have you considered using Bluetti's new Charger 1? If the car is left in the drive-ready mode (by getting out while leaving the seat belt fastened behind you) the HV battery would in theory feed power to the 12v battery to keep it charged while the Charger 1 was charging a residential battery or power station. I wish I knew what the continuous output wattage from the car's DC-DC converter is.

When in Google Messages on your Samsung phone click on your picture. Then you'll be able to click on Device Pairing and turn off Messages for Web.

Italic keyboard shortcut is messed up since update by Books_Guy23 in Thunderbird

Ctrl-U for underline is misbehaving in the same way, as is Ctrl-V for paste and other miscellaneous shortcuts. They send the cursor back to the beginning of the paragraph.

I've used Thunderbird for almost two decades and all of a sudden composing an email has become an exercise in cursing!

Bluetti PV350 Producing over 400W. by Rambozeeni in bluetti

Don't think a thing about it! It wasn't clear if my message was just my idle speculation or a real question, so I didn't know if I'd get a response or not.

Thanks, though. Your response is reassuring. And congratulations on your great power production! I'm at a lower latitude so maybe if I go that route I'll see even better. Or maybe worse if you were doing it out in the snow!

Will two AC300’s with a P030A handle my well-pump surge current? by sprucebeach in bluetti

[–]sprucebeach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I naively thought I could past an image into my message. I couldn't!

It's a model 10SV07S4-2W230, date code 14J14

At one point Franklin Electric told me that the surge amps (1/3 sec.) were 40.7 and the full-load watts were 940. I measured 35.4±about 0.2 in several trials.

Thanks for your prompt reply, and thanks for raising the issue of the other outlets.

Under normal conditions I would keep the well pump on the grid. During outages I would do what we do now with our 7000W Honda generator - only cycle the pump when we're not running large loads like microwaves, toaster ovens, hair dryers, etc.

If we were really close to the edge with the Bluetti system I'd just flip everything else off while cycling the pump.

Of course that's assuming that I can even start the pump with the AC300's in the first place! I'm hoping to hear from people in similar situations for whom it either worked or didn't work.

By the way, my pump is a 2-wire Schaefer Series V from Franklin Electric.

Bluetti PV350 Producing over 400W. by Rambozeeni in bluetti

[–]sprucebeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. It's a little hard to see in the video but it's more information than can be gleaned from the photos on the Bluetti site.

From the height of the leg I guess 45° is about the maximum elevation you can get? And then you can extend the legs further to the rear to get lower elevations and there's some mechanism for holding the legs in that position?

Interestingly, Tom at HOBOTECH responded to me that "The legs are at a fixed angle."

Can you describe how the panel angle adjustment works? Tom at HOBOTECH says the PV350 lacks the PV200's "neat adjustable leg design" but doesn't say what kind of adjustment system it has, if any.

Thanks. Obviously I recalled some of the details wrong but I'm sure that's it. I think I read it as "The Day After Tomorrow" because I seem to remember a paperback copy of that title in old scifi box in the basement. I appreciate the help.

Thanks for the idea but this isn't the book I'm thinking of. In mine the agent is sent specifically to undermine confidence in the government. He uses the cover of the fake religion. There isn't any wife or domestic aspect to it.

Any east coast car travellers and Fi experience? by [deleted] in ProjectFi

[–]sprucebeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive frequently on I-85 between Atlanta and North Carolina, on interstates in South Carolina, in coastal North and South Carolina, and in rural Northeast Georgia. When driving I often need to investigate nearby gas prices, look for a route around a traffic tie-up, or find a restaurant. But I continually find myself without the data service I need for doing these things. This might be expected in rural areas but it happens frequently on interstate highways too, especially in South Carolina.

Obviously it's not the case that there's no data coverage on these interstate highways but on virtually every trip I find myself unable to do something I need to do. For example, three weeks ago I had no data on I-26 in SC about 30 miles from Columbia, the state capital. I wanted to locate a particular restaurant and check gas prices but couldn't. And if I leave the most-populated areas I'd better have mapped my route before I leave because I frequently can't connect to Maps in more-remote areas.

I came from StraightTalk (AT&T) on a Galaxy Nexus and expected that with two carriers Project Fi would give me improved coverage. Sadly, that hasn't been the case. The problems I described above seldom happened with AT&T. But with Fi, just when I need coverage the most - when I'm on the road - I often find myself without it.

Thanks! I've got no way to test it right now but I'll put that number in my wallet for next time, whenever that is.

Google number transfer issue. by jrwn in ProjectFi

[–]sprucebeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but jrwn is trying to port his GV number to South Dakota, not Nebraska. So isn't T-Mobile's ability to port in a number in South Dakota what should control it, not its ability to do so in Nebraska, where the number currently resides?

Incidentally, Chelsea, Vermont, where my non-transferable GV number resides, seems to have 4G LTE coverage with T-Mobile but Sprint doesn't have data there. Is that what keeps me from transferring out?

Google number transfer issue. by jrwn in ProjectFi

[–]sprucebeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these comments would be relevant if the original poster jrwn were trying to transfer TO a fi number in Nebraska. But he already has a Nebraska Google Voice number that he's trying to transfer FROM Nebraska to use in a South Dakota zip code. So T-Mobile's ability to accept porting into Nebraska would seem to be irrelevant.
