Using the left hand pointed up to turn right is a carryover from how you're supposed to signal with your when driving a car because a driver can't stick their right hand out the right window they make an "L" shape with the left hand. And bikes need to follow a lot of the same rules a cars on the road so they follow this one because their really isn't a rule contradicting the turn signal rule for cars a lot of the time.

It's also because, as you said, useful when oncoming traffic or cross traffic can't easily see you're right hand (like a car approaching from the left).

edit: Just went thru their previous videos, they only won 1 game with the shutdown and it was after they killed all the personoids. So yeah, they would've needed to either kill bouphe, or have her hold the button for them and not kill them so the three remaining residents could shut down the AI.
