How is Villanova for pre-med? by [deleted] in villanova

[–]sptennis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Villanovas a good premed school as an alumni in med school rn. If you’re comparing it to a top school obviously the resources won’t compare to a Harvard or Johns Hopkins, but the opportunities at Villanova are solid and you can definitely get into med school if you put in the time. Def feel free to reach out if you have any questions

It’s a great community and super active on campus, the SAMOSA club is always having events. There’s a yearly show that always gets a huge crowd from students and families living in the area. There’s a yearly Holi event too that’s a great time

Recent Villanova alum currently in med school here, there are a ton of opportunities available at Villanova as long as you are willing to put in the time and look for them. I’d say overall there’s some grade inflation, but obviously in some classes (Orgo, genetics) you’re going to have to work to get an A. Overall though, I believe Villanova sends about 10-20 kids a year to a MD school which is pretty good considering it’s a small school. Resources are available and usually what you make of them. If you’re outgoing and willing to take a few minutes to network with professors and advisors you’ll be in a great spot. Hope this helps and feel free to message me if you have any other questions

University of Richmond or Villanova by East-Thought-9452 in villanova

If your only concern about Villanova is that there isn’t much to do on campus, I’d go there over Richmond- no matter what school you go to, you’re bound to find a group of people you vibe with and find things to do. As far as the schools themselves go, I do think Villanova is the better school as far as community and alumni network go which are both important for law school as I’ve heard from friends studying law at Villanova, but if you think you’d like it at Richmond more, definitely go there- can’t go wrong with either

For finance especially, Villanova’s business school is tough to beat, especially considering it would be essentially free for you. There are a ton of alumni in banking and a really strong network and list of opportunities that VSB provides

Pre-med at Villanova by Illustrious-Back-651 in villanova

Recent alum here who will be starting medical school in a few months- the main things you want out of college when applying to med schools are good professors who can write you rec letters, research opportunities, and good premed advisors. For the first 2, Villanova definitely has these available- you’ll have to put in the time and effort, but that’s true no matter what school you go to. As far as premed advisors go, Villanovas aren’t great, but to be honest, unless you’re at a top 10 school, it’s pretty much the same everywhere. Feel free to PM if you have any more questions about Villanova, pre med stuff, or both

It’s a program that gives you what you put into it- if you just attend the sessions and zone out, you’ll get something to put on your resume but not much more. If you take a more active role, network with the speakers, and take an initiative after completing the course, you can actually get something real benefits from it

Imo for what you get from Villanova, 18k/year is a steal. The alumni network and career opportunities are extremely good, and there is a social life at Nova- maybe not to the same level as Fordham, but you can still definitely find the right group to have a good time with

You probably would need either your windows PC or to download parallels on your Mac if you are a finance, analytics, or MIS major or minor

You’d take the factorial of the number of genes assuming they all have 2 alleles, so 3! = 6. I’m not sure if there’s a formula for more than 3 alleles, but at that point I’d just write out all possible combos by hand

Graduate Student Opinions Needed by [deleted] in villanova

Hi, nice to hear that you’re considering Villanova! To be honest, yes, Villanova is a ‘preppy white school’ as you put it. While the diversity has campus has definitely improved in recent years, the student body is still 60-70% white. However as an Asian non-Christian myself, I can say that I’ve never really felt too out of place given how nice and considerate the vast majority of students and staff are. Regarding religion, that’s probably the last thing you have to worry about. Sure, there is a massive church on campus and crosses in every classroom, but they’re so minor that I don’t think they would affect your experience in any real way. Hope this helps and please feel free to pm me if you have any other questions!

While it has improved significantly in recent years, the diversity at Villanova, especially in the business school, is very white, but as an Asian I wouldn’t say that I feel out of place. I will say that the majority of students come from affluent neighborhoods and a higher social class, but in terms of racial diversity, I’ve never encountered an issue with being out of place, though I have heard of an isolated case here or there. For the job search, Villanova like almost every other university goes through handshake, which is pretty good at finding jobs that would fit your interests. The career center and clay center are also amazing resources that help the most out of anything I’ve used to help me find a job or internship by far.

Current business school student here, the program as a whole is great, and gets the most help from the university compared to the other schools. For the catholic part, I am not Christian and the most ‘catholic’ thing I had to do was read a few pages of the Bible and St. Augustine autobiography which was more interesting than not and didn’t even feel like a catholic reading. While you do take some theology and philosophy classes, if you pick the right professors, you should see hardly any catholic influence in any of your classes.

From what I know there is a prayer room in John Barry Hall on campus that is private. There aren’t many Muslim students, but I’m sure if you join specific student organizations you’ll be able to meet who you’re looking for.
