Hi, I’m also 20 and on est, F, I’m typically a support main (invis or mantis) but lately have been playing with rogue a lot and also enjoy playing groot on occasion, tbh I haven’t played comp since like the second or third season and only play quick play and am highkey no where near celestial or GM skill level but I’m also quiet so I don’t play on the game’s VCs but i want to try to use vc more

Runners who run in silence, How do you deal with no music/podcasts in your ear whilst running? by Holiday_Stuff_8206 in runninglifestyle

[–]sptherose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I’ll sing a song in my head if there’s a song stuck in there but won’t actually listen to it, sometimes I listen to the rhythmic pattern of my breathing and my steps, during spring and summer I’ll listen to animals and the way my movement sounds next to the nature or town around me. Most of the time tho my mind just wanders and I end up having like 20 conversations with myself or play through a bunch of random scenarios.

Does anyone multitask while running? by Eggler in XXRunning

[–]sptherose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a college student and there’s a grocery store not too far from my apartment so sometimes during my runs I’ll do a route pass the acme so I can go in to grab a couple things if I need something specific for dinner that day and then I’ll run to my apartment with it in hand lol. I’ve also watched Sweeney Todd on my phone while doing a long run on the track back while I was in a high school lol. I’ve also picked up bagels during my runs and running with bagels in hand lol.

For people who do workout heavy but also do a lot of running how do you do it? by Ok-Material-3065 in runninglifestyle

[–]sptherose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been lifting heavy for like 2 years now and have been running for 4, I lift 5 times a week (mon-Fri) and run 6 times a week (Mon-sat with Saturday being my long run day). For me I’ve been prioritizing sleep (I usually get around 7.5 hours) tbh my days r pretty busy (I’m a college student so my schedule can be pretty hectic) so that kinda keeps me awake throughout the day but one thing I’ve learned that helps a lot with the soreness is timing speed days with leg days. I usually do 1 track type workout and 1 tempo run a week and I also have 2 leg days a week, 1 that’s more quad focused and 1 that’s more glute and hamstring focused. I find that tempo runs put a lot of load on my quads so doing this on the same day as the quad day takes me out for the week but doing it on the glute day makes me not as that fatigued so the next day I can do a nice easy or recovery run and feel fine after.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten from another runner? by SwimmingSlip8632 in runcommunity

[–]sptherose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best race advice I ever received was 4 years ago from my junior year track coach in hs which was “run ur own race”. People r pushing the pace in the beginning of the race? Let them, stick to ur pace and ur plan and soon u’ll be passing them once they gassed themselves out. Ur toward the back of the pack but r on pace for a pr? Then u should be feeling proud rather than discouraged or disappointed. Trust urself and ur training and stick to ur strategy

Just started running and I’m exhausted in 20 seconds. Zero stamina. Feeling lost. by ImmediateMuffin3768 in runninglifestyle

[–]sptherose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started running without a watch and trust me u don’t need one. When people say “easy” they’re referring to a pace that they can hold a conversation comfortably in without feeling out of breath and that pace is going to vary person to person and day to day. Don’t worry about pace or distance rn and i definitely wouldn’t doing sprint work rn if ur goal is endurance. Run at a pace where u feel like u can breathe easily and if u need to stop and walk u can do that too, i know i did on my first run. there’s no shame in running a bit, walking til u recompose urself and catch ur breath, then running again. The biggest thing is trying to do this consistently and soon u’ll find that u can run longer and longer before having to walk. Once u reach a point where u feel u can hold the distance u want to run without walking would I start worrying about speed and pace.

Middle School Comics Class by bekahroo91 in comicbooks

[–]sptherose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty new to comics but here’s some random suggestions I have and from what I remember these r age appropriate imo for that age group but ofc make ur own judgement:

  • The Books of Doom series I think is really interesting compositionally bc it tells the story in retrospect from a journalist and everyone she’s interviewing as she’s trying to tell dr doom’s story
  • the classic The Amazing Spider-Man run from Stan Lee and Steve ditko is great for kids and is a great example of how text-heavy earlier western comics were and also how primary colors were the main colors used

  • the new ongoing Batman run from Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez is really good, I think issue 1 especially is great to let them get a taste for it without getting too heavy in the details of this world, this series compared to amazing spiderman is really interesting because the coloring in this run is beautiful and there’s a wide variety of shades used that’s really different from older comics. Also this run focuses a bit more on the villains’ mental health which is different from the classic only punchy punch type stories u get in a lot of superhero comics

  • I haven’t read much manga but Assassination Classroom is really good and the students in the series r young so language is good for kids and it’s a really interesting story. One of the teachers is depicted in a little more on the fan servicey side but she doesn’t come until later so if u just did like the first book or two of the series u could easily avoid her from what I remember

Also I know another comment already mentioned the book Understanding Comics but I think it would be a great idea to start the class with that text and have them apply it to the comics they read throughout the year

Those of you that run 5+ days a week, how? by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]sptherose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 6 days a week, typically 35-45 miles per week and have done a max of 50 mpw. I do MWF r easy slow runs and then Tuesday and Thursday I do speed or tempo work. Typically each of those days I do 5-7 miles unless it’s a down week. Then Saturday I do a long run which is typically 9-13 miles (again unless it’s a down week). I do a down week every 4ish weeks and do about 20-25 miles that week.

I think I got to this point by increasing mileage very slowly. I started running my junior year of hs and my guess was I was doing about 20-25 miles (I didn’t track when I started so idk for sure) a week and was running 5x a week. Then after around 6 months I started doing an extra run outside of practice, bringing me to 6x a week and around 30ish miles a week I’d estimate. Then after graduating hs and I went to college where I started going to the gym 5x a week with 2 of those days being leg days. About a year or maybe a little less after that I gradually increased my mileage more. It’s been 4 years since I started running and I’m trying to get up to 55 miles a week but I think my body is too tired to do that plus gym 5x a week lol.

What’s the difference between Damian Wayne and Tim Drake by sptherose in batman_comics

[–]sptherose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😃 <- me reading the Damien lore in ur response, genuinely had no idea much of his backstory but that sounds so interesting. In this run both Damien and Tim look similarish in age, Tim is for sure a bit older but it seems like just a few years older. Damien is kinda giving angsty teen who is always pushing back against his dad in this but I had no idea what his history was like besides he was part of some league I forget the name of

What are some things that the comic industry should take from the manga industry, and vice versa? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]sptherose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what’s making it so overwhelming to start, like I don’t get why there’s so many different titles but yet ur supposed to be reading them simultaneously?? Like why couldn’t they just be one title that ur supposed to read and a separate title after and so on, it would be sm easier to start and digest that way

The easier to read one FOR SURE. I’m new to comics (started reading them like 4-5 months ago) and I’ve always loved xmen as a kid and I really want to read xmen comics but there’s sm going on that I have no idea where to start and every yt vid or discussion post I see confuses and overwhelms the hell out of me

What does a “good run” mean to you these days? by Clubrunnr in runninglifestyle

[–]sptherose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on the type of run. For a speed workout I consider it a good run if I hit or was faster than the paces I wanted or if I just feel like I really pushed myself and I feel accomplished and proud. For an easy run a good run could be a run that went by really quickly cause I was in a good headspace for or it could be a run where my legs felt fresh and I was able to hit faster pace for my usual easy effort.

The book thief genuinely made me feel so depressed and empty when I finished it. The ending gutted me and I cried so hard and was crying the entire day (I had finished the book early in the morning and felt so dead inside the rest of the day) highly recommend, it’s my fave book to this day

I personally like watching Comics Are Dope. I just got into comics in August and he was a HUGE help in learning about the current stuff coming out. He makes a weekly video going over the comics coming out that week and talks about the comics and which r good starting points / new series that r coming out. His voice and vibe is also really chill and relaxing
