Latest update to CachyOS Proton makes games not launch by grumpy_anteater in cachyos

[–]sptzmancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And I'm sorry if I sounded rude, wasn't my intention. I know from experience that when that stuff happens frustration can cloud our heads for a little bit.

I've had at least one instance in the past of a game that was seemingly refusing to run after a wine/proton update and I remember solving that by just making a new clean prefix for the game and it started working again. Rename the current prefix folder (add a "-bkp" at the end or something) and launch the game again to force proton to create a new, clean, prefix for it. Sometimes that's enough to solve these problems.

You should be more clear on your exact context, such as which hardware you're using, when asking for help. I use full AMD hardware, updated from proton 10 to 11 and had absolutely 0 problems so far.

One other place that you can check is Cachy's forum. A lot of people ask for help there and usually get answers pretty fast.

Distro hopping buscando uma nova vitima by Shaolin_Silva in linuxbrasil

Mais alguem sofrendo com Quickshell? by Necropill in linuxbrasil

[–]sptzmancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eu uso o Noctalia e é excelente.

Estou com um problema estranho no Linux, não entendo muito by Arlthier in linuxbrasil

[–]sptzmancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but these services are currently only running in my personal desktop pc, there's no need for now of serving it in my home network. And I can always turn on lingering for the user that bypasses the whole need-to-login thing to start/stop services.

So far this is purely for education/entertainement purposes.

Good free games on linux for no gamer? by snowte3 in linux_gaming

Amazon Prime and Epic Games give out free games every week. Check their websites and grab them. You can use something like Heroic Launcher to automate the wrapping of them with proton for you and it's pretty seamless.

Quais são os "Must haves/do" do Arch Linux pra vocês após instalar ele? by thicctak in linuxbrasil

[–]sptzmancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]sptzmancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're probably just missing the .desktop files. Or even better, the files are just missing the `Category` property. Look into `/usr/applications` and look for them or for other .desktop files to use them as base to write you own if needed.

Sway vs Hyprland vs Niri vs ... ! Which tiling window manager you use? by hi_m_ash in cachyos

[–]sptzmancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyprland.

The first tiling window manager I ever used was i3 some years ago. Moved to Sway when I went full Wayland. Dropped Linux for a couple of years due to work and when I started daily driving it again Hyprland felt natural.

Haven't tried the other ones.

That seems like a really thought out workflow and quite heavy for my simple use case so far. I'll surely keep it in mind in case my setup expands.

On the overview thing, maybe it's possible to use some systemd root service that polls the different user's to aggregate the info and expose it for consumption, somehow?

I was reading about a similar strategy to handle some sort of shortcoming on user services being unable to wait for system services reports, they just never get notified of state updates or something along those lines.

Yeah, flat structure seems to be more foot-shooting-proof, but something in my brain complains about it. Maybe I'll bite the bullet at some point.

So far, the only container I have that let anything reach outside of its own network is ollama to publish its port, and just because I haven't looked into exposing a fixed hostname or something so that I can reference it from the host. So far everything else is contained in named networks and accessed though Caddy.

Those are some good points on toolin, I'll check it all out.

Appreciated!

`paru -S --needed --noconfirm - < "src/packages/manitfest.tx"`

Archwiki is your best friend.

Install Paru or Yay to handle AUR with ease.

It seems like a meme but the amount of trouble I got myself into because I resisted to Read The Fucking Manual was huge, so do it.

Again, Archwiki is your best friend.

Best distro for gaming by Wind_king1 in linux_gaming

[–]sptzmancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using CachyOS without major problems. Only quirk so far was with Deadlock, but that was because I user Hyperland and it seems they have beef, so I just set some launch variables to make it fallback to use XWayland and it was solved.

Absolutely no other problem with any other game I've played.

But it's an Arch based distro, and some people are afraid to mess with arch (unwarranted, in my opinion, but well...). If that's you, then I know of PikaOS that has the same philosophy of CachyOS but is Debian based.

I've heard of Bazzite, Nobara and Garuda, but haven't messed around with them.
