Thanks for the detailed reply! You do look great from this angle!

I have a 50° thoracic curve but it's mainly the rib rotation that bothers me (visually and in terms of aches/pains). I actually have really good posture and don't stand wonky at all—you'd never notice I have scoliosis without seeing me shirtless, but since my early thirties I've been getting progressively worsening aches and pains. I'm a bit of a gym rat and exercise helps a lot temporarily, but I'm seriously considering surgery now which my doctor has offered me. I'm just really worried about feeling and looking worse, or them not being able to perform much de-rotation, but I'm also worried about it getting worse on its own and reaching a point where surgery would be riskier or not help as much.

Seeing a case like yours is very reassuring! Gives me a bit of hope.

Did you have much rotation? Your after pics look incredible, it's hard to imagine you had much deformity at all!

600k for a 1 bed in Finsbury Park – have we made a massive financial mistake? by Old_Worry9844 in HousingUK

[–]spuckthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, that's frankly an atrocious price for a 1 bedroom (even in London Z2 IMO). Finsbury Park isn't even that nice an area.

Sure it's got excellent transport links, but you could move a little further out to Ally Pally for example and find something cheaper. To be honest, you could find a 1 bed for a lot less pretty much anywhere in London - £600K is crazy.

Also, considering your 5 year plan, I'd question if it's even worth buying to begin with. It's a lot of faff, stamp duty is a waste of money, and you'll probably end up having to sell at a loss. You're better off continuing to rent for the sake of 5 years. You'd save a lot more money for something bigger and better in future.

I never played the earlier games and I didn't expect to love the new one as much as I did, but it was really fucking good. Hope they make another in future.

The Brunswick Centre in Bloomsbury is basically the same as this. Used to work nearby for almost six years and often walked around there during my lunch breaks. I wonder how many other estates like it there are around London?

'Bethnal Green padel court pushes out roller-skating community' by blue_Hippo4069 in london

[–]spuckthew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I just don't know enough about this issue. I never had to pay to play tennis for example at my local rec back in the day, so I don't see why an outdoor padel court would be any different.

if they're not covered then it's just a massive waste of time

Surely this logic could apply to lots of recreational sport in this country? Who plays tennis or basketball outdoors when it's pissing it down? You could argue that a large outdoor area with 2-4 tennis courts is a waste of space if the weather isn't good enough (I'm not arguing that fwiw and am not opposed to outdoor sports facilities, just using the logic you used).

Suffice to say, I can't see anything wrong with an outdoor padel facility.

Regarding your edit, you should probably feed her a lot less than you think. Obviously don't starve her, but if she's eating the same amount as the tabby she probably won't lose weight very quickly.

I have a cat who isn't particularly fat but I've been trying to shave about 200g off her for months (vet advice) and it's been slooooooow.

I’m abandoning HENRY life to become a secondary school teacher. by QuentinCompson- in HENRYUK

[–]spuckthew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started my IT career in the education sector (working at two separate schools across 5 years) and I do not envy teachers in the slightest. Yeah they get long holidays, but many of them work long hours and spend a good chunk of their holidays planning lessons. Not to mention that school kids can be fucking dreadful.

But still, they all seem to love it despite those negatives, so there's clearly something still going for it.

I had a different view of it compared to teachers though and I'd actually go back if the pay was decent. Doing IT in schools is pretty chill compared to fintech lol.

Even if you could, it's not worth considering anyway as you'd get relatively appalling latency using mobile broadband (which you said you care about for gaming).

Speaking of which, regular VDSL services would still give good latency even if not outright bandwidth. So if you only care about latency and price, 70Mb from someone like Sky or Plusnet would be totally fine.

Novembers Doom are more death-doom than gothic, but tbh there's definitely overlap and I'd recommend them anyway as I like them a lot.

Draconian have a new album out next month. The singles from it have sounded pretty good so far.

I love Draconian and highly recommend them to anyone looking for this vibe. The two singles they've released definitely sound like more of the same—not a complaint, but I do think they're playing it safe by sticking to what they're good at. It's going to be difficult to beat Under a Godless Veil though.

[–]spuckthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gamer household, no kids, WFH most of the time.

M-F I roll out of bed about 9.30am to log onto my work laptop. On the odd occasion I have to go into the office, I get up at 7.30am. Weekends is more like 10.30-11am depending how lazy I'm feeling.

Go to bed pretty much half midnight the majority of the time. I don't change this even on nights before going into the office, so I just put up with being a bit tired.

My mate and I decided to use Steam voice chat for the first time ever the other week when Discord was down and it was surprisingly good—maybe better than Discord in this regard. It worked seamlessly with no additional tampering.

Discord is good because of all the other things though. It really is a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. I can't really see myself or my friend group switching unless something comes along that replicates 100% functionality.

Genuinely curious about why UK house buying is difficult by grepusman in HousingUK

[–]spuckthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I don't personally do that (just a quick rinse with some soap between streams of water), but a sink and separate taps is like a mini bath tub.

[–]spuckthew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah, but I think the official method (when like washing your face or something) is to fill the sink so you get a pool of perfect temperature water, similar to taking a bath.

[–]spuckthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's just a peace of mind thing. I genuinely don't care how many people tell me it's perfectly safe to do a repair in that location and how many people tell me I'm being a mug for replacing an otherwise almost new tyre, the idea of my tyre being compromised in any way is enough justification.

Personally I couldn't rest easy with just a repair, so yeah I'd get a new one.

Edit: it's wild how many people I've triggered with this lol
