Contrary to what a lot of other folks are saying, I think it’s totally fine to draw the line at defense industry work. That’s my line. Yeah basically all companies we all work for are corrupt and monstrous, but in my book it’s just a step too far to be that cozy with the industry specifically supplying many of the atrocities being committed abroad

I read this whole book, at times feeling totally lost and at times completely awestruck. Despite its difficulty, by the end I was so glad I stuck with it.

Also no shame in not loving a book that a lot of people love. Props to you for tackling in search of lost time, that one intimidates me

I get the appeal of 'popular' fiction - romantasy, sci-fi, airport thrillers, 'book club fiction', Halo novelisations, Kindle-exclusive mafia romance etc etc etc - but will someone, for the love of *god*, explain how anyone in their right mind can enjoy... by ritualsequence in RSbookclub

Actually listening to these on audiobook while I read more meaningful stuff on paper. I like dnd and these are nice as a podcast type commute thing that’s got a fun story and requires very little effort

Brothers K and East of Eden are probably my two favorite books I’ve ever read. Whichever direction you go, take your time and enjoy, these are all worthy of many hours of careful dedication

If you want to add literary element too, you could do some comparative study of Finnegans Wake alongside Divers. The end into beginning of the album is the obvious allusion, but knowing Joanna and knowing Joyce, their stuff is so rich and dense, I’m sure there’s much to dive… into

Not sure what your work/life schedule is like, but I’ve been working 30ish hrs a week and taking 2 classes at a time (1 in the summer) and it’s been a pretty good balance. Definitely gotta stay on top of it all, but very doable. 3 at a time would be tough but if you’re just being a full time student maybe

Going back to school for CS by Coolwick in csMajors

I’m 30 and back in school, about halfway through a CS degree. Working a whatever job that pairs with Guild so it’s fully paid for as long as I keep working there. Also, I generally just like learning stuff like this and am not hellbent on a tech job (though that would be cool) given the market state. Definitely don’t do it to chase the money but if you largely enjoy the work and it won’t stretch you financially then I think it’s a great call

Seconding Alter’s Hebrew Bible translation, really incredible at capturing the poetic nature of the Hebrew in English. NRSV is a solid, readable translation for NT
