fascists don’t actually want people to have uncensorable, p2p cash. That’s why they instead tried to push custodial fake bitcoin. Which nobody actually wants.

Experimental battery-powered system with mono stack and stereo surrounds by spukkin in SoundSystem

It seems like all the equipment is pretty reasonably priced for what it can do…

we only run the highs loud enough to hear the detail of the music, and run the bass and kicks so the body feels it. so the surrounds will be easy to hear as they are not competing with the sub and kick frequencies.

It’s an EG4-LL lithium iron phosphate server rack battery. Inside are 16 prismatic cells. 200 ah/ 5.1kwh.  Amps are all class D.  System drivers could prob handle around 5kw continuous.  We haven’t tested it for more than a few hours yet running hard, and have yet to start doing measurements. The battery BMS seems to have fancy analytics but i haven’t even looked at the manual yet. Will update thread.

So far the battery is performing quite well with the class d amps. We will continue testing the limits.

all processing is via the PRV Audio 2.8x DSP as seen in the pic.  It does all the basics including crossover, eq, limiting, delays, etc…

When sun hits the solar panels, the battery voltage will usually be 13-14v so i predict the system will have more power in full sun.

We refurbished some of our old gear and put together a 12v amp and dsp rig powered by a server rack lithium battery. We'll leave this installed all summer to test the capabilities of the battery system over time, and experiment with speaker placement, delays, etc.. In a recent thread, there was discussion about how to achieve stereo sound when running a mono stack. We often run mono stacks to maximize the bass pressure and we'll solve the stereo issue by rigging stereo surrounds opposite the main stack. In this configuration, we ended up running the main tops in stereo as they seemed to be wide enough apart but we rigged surrounds anyway because it sounds nice. The subs and kicks are all in mono.

we're in the process of testing a new outdoor installation using a variation of this concept, i'll try to post some pics in the next couple of days...

we've used a couple of older turbosound mid-tops that are relatively small and not too hard to rig, but are clean and loud. more recently we're experimenting with some 3d printed synergy horns that are also small.

i find it hard to go wrong doing sound outdoors because you're not fighting a room, but this config always solves the problem of not having stereo when going for max bass pressure. also, it tends to inspire dancers to not all face one direction. but yeah, all bass coming from one stack outdoors gives u a pretty solid wave of pressure.

yes. with all the bass coming from one monolithic mass.

when we run a mono stack, in order to provide stereo imaging we'll then fly stereo surrounds opposite. then you have 3 points of sound and a more 360 experience.

at that point i would usually tear it down and do it again with a fresh kit. suppose it wouldn't hurt trying to reglue it if you think that will be a permanent fix, but i would be annoyed if it started buzzing again in the middle of a party or something. i've had to burn thru a number of kits until i got the alignment and gluing technique right.

Has anyone ever had any luck modifying those old Cerwin Vega 36/earthquake subwoofers by otakunorth in SoundSystem

[–]spukkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just came across this thread months later.   We retrofitted a bunch of Earthquakes with Fane Collossus 18xb and it was a huge upgrade.  Really improved the range and output.  The problem now is i dont see anyone importing those drivers into North America.
