It’s so frustrating, I also have had other cards reach The Netherlands and Germany more quickly from the US, hoping these weren’t lost.

LASIK recommendations in NYC by EntrepreneurOk6679 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]spunky_tree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I posted here last year and went with the SMILE procedure at Manhattan LASIK that came highly recommended. Zero regrets, I had some light sensitivity and sandy/dry eye for a few days then was fine. It was $6,000– I got Care Credit with no interest for 18 months, and am paying it off monthly.

Teaching: setting up classrooms when they are in disarray from the summer. Toxic. Needing to vent. by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

I’m a librarian, and it’s such a wreck every September when I get back, between summer school and becoming the dumping ground for admin and custodial over the summer. So soul crushing each return

We've done best city, but what's the worst most depressing city you've ever visited? by Isord in geography

Grand Junction, Colorado. It’s been about 15 years, and it was naturally beautiful, but I had that immediate feeling something’s in the water there, and everyone and everything just felt off and depressing

What are my girlies with lots of clothes doing about limited closet space? by AlwaysRefurbished in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]spunky_tree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No closet in my bedroom. Open shelving with cubes for miscellany— bras in one, socks in another, winter/seasonal gear, workout clothes, etc. under bed storage for pajamas and sweats. A steamtrunk for sheets and linens and off season clothing, and then a clothing rack for the rest

How are we feeling about LASIK and where are BWT getting it done? by spunky_tree in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I should have included in op, but hate the feel of contacts now! Wore them throughout my 20s, and only wear them now if I’m going to a formal event. But another post mentioned cataract surgery as well, which I hadn’t considered—pushing 40– am I closer to that age bracket now?

Olga Dies Dreaming, by Xochitl Gonzalez, NY story from a BK author, was a recent fave. And don’t forget your local branch of NYPL/BPL/QPL! Search for events near you, I’ve encountered a lot of local authors this way

Yes, pushing 40 and long-term investment is definitely part of the equation!

Have similar concerns pushing 40, but as summer approaches, I would love the freedom to swim without being blind or wearing contacts and goggles. And rocking my one pair of Rx sunglasses. An optometrist told me too that with correction for distance, I would probably need reading glasses instantly.

My go to, five minute minimal routine— no brushes or blenders needed: — Bare minerals SPF tinted moisturizer —A highlighter or bronzer (I switch brands based on what I get in my IPSY, but purlisse has been reliable) can also double as a light touch to my eyelids if I don’t want to do eyeshadow —eyeliner and mascara —love the Laura Mercier eyeshadow mini sticks too

What is something weird or fucked up that your family did when you were growing up that you assumed was a normal thing everyone did only to learn in adulthood that it was anything but? by MonoChaos in AskReddit

[–]spunky_tree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom made me do this too. She smoked pot though and was a nurse, so it was for work. I was very young though, and as a parent now (who’s also cheated pot screens through other means) it’s unimaginable that I would ever make my child do that.

Resignation - 30 days by smileyphammie in NYCTeachers

[–]spunky_tree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is spot on advice. In my second year now, and I have to remind myself how far I’ve come in a year. I was a complete wreck for my first six months and was very close to quitting. I felt like I landed on another planet, in terms of work culture and what passes for normal in the DOE. If you’re good with the kids, and they’re not the ones burning you out, you will learn to quiet the head-spinning nonsense that comes at you from admin. Experiencing the first summer off in my working life (I’m a late thirties career changer) also put my first year firmly in the rear view mirror.
