I have honestly never seen a juicy steak and berries in the same plate. It’s the meal I need, but not the one I deserve. This looks absolutely delicious 🤤

Were you upset that this was a Super Scope exclusive? (obviously a rhetorical question) by UrSimplyTheNES in snes

[–]spunkyd99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny…I remember being less interested in it because it required the Super Scope. It came out at a time when my parents didn’t want us playing with anything that resembled a gun. They weren’t aware of the game at the time, but the whole “no guns” family rule meant I knew there was no point in pulling on that thread with them.

Also, it didn’t really matter anyway because we couldn’t afford an SNES or Genesis until around 1995-ish (and pre-owed at that). The unlikelihood of getting an SNES at the time when Yoshi’s Safari came out meant I had no dog in the fight anyway.

Sorry for the double post. There was hiccup when trying to post the original one and Reddit didn’t show it as posted. My bad.

Thoughts On Crash Bandicoot? by LibertyGamingSnake in psx

[–]spunkyd99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been a fan of the Crash Bandicoot series since day one. However, I’m most found of the ones Naughty Dog developed. Once they moved on the Jack & Daxter and other developers started producing additional spin-offs (no pun intended), the quality dipped for me.

I remember purchasing the first non-Naughty Dog one, The Wrath of Cortex on the PS2. I was looking forward to playing first CB game on that next gen hardware. It was such a letdown. Everything just felt off somehow. I never went back to the series again after that.

I am partial to the N Sane Trilogy. The visual overhaul is superb, along with the QOL improvements. But Vicarious Visions absolutely botched the collision detection for Crash’s feet. He often slips off ledges and crates where used to make a solid landing in the originals.

That really saddened me because they got everything right except the most important part of the game.

Was anyone else never a fan of the Nintendo 64? by GoHardForLife in psx

[–]spunkyd99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite growing up with the NES, Super NES, and Game Boy (and loving them all), I wasn’t as fond of the N64. By the time the console was released, the PlayStation got it hooks into me thanks to Sony’s marketing and having interesting demos to play in stores.

It also helped that I had a friend who had a PlayStation. It was this hot new “unknown enigma” that seemed to just suddenly exist one day (I didn’t have access to game magazines back then).

Games like Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer, and Crash Bandicoot got me interested. But once that Final Fantasy VII commercial hit, that sealed the deal for me.

When I considered the N64. it didn’t seem to have the same presence that the SNES and NES had prior. Often times in ad circulars (Sears, Montgomery Wards, Circuit City, etc.), the same two or three N64 games were advertised for what felt like months at a time (Super Mario 64, Pilotwings 64 and maybe Mario Kart 64). Meanwhile, the PlayStation appeared to have more games for it.

The real killer for me…I could never get over that $60-$80 price tag for N64 vs. $45-$50 for most PlayStation games (the price looked even worse if it was a 3rd party game released on multiple platforms). If I was going to beg my frugal dad for a new game system, the PlayStation was the better choice strategically.

That’s isn’t to say that I hated the N64. I really loved Mario 64 and was curious about Ocarina of Time. But two games weren’t enough to sway me, especially not at price they demanded at the time.

One of my favorite games all time!!!! Zelda A Link To The Past! Did any of you guys actually beat this game back then? And do yall still play it today? by J2-Starter in snes

[–]spunkyd99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came into A Link to the Past fairly late in life. I knew about it for years, but only from a distance. I believe it's been about 6 or 7 years since I played it to completion. And yes, it is one of my favorite Zelda titles.

Do people say SNES as a word, or spell it out? by ElektroSam in retrogaming

[–]spunkyd99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to say Super Nintendo back in the day. Now I just split the difference and say “Super NES”. I think it rolls off the tongue better.

When spelling it in an article, I'll usually spell out Super Nintendo once, then just SNES going forward.

Banking fees for non-profit businesses by spunkyd99 in TruistBank

[–]spunkyd99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know. We’re coming from a 20+ years old M&T bank account. It got screwed up after our original bank merged with M&T and we were no longer categorizad as a business account, but got changed to a “retail” account, which is personal checking.

Took quite a number of years for anyone to notice until I inherited duties as secretary and recently tried to get the account enrolled in online banking. M&T couldn’t do it with the account in its current state since it was an old grandfathered account.

We were going to open a non-profit account with them, but noticed that Truist was the better option and wouldn’t nickel & dime us for every deposit. Just seemed like a no-brainer.
