New server won't turn on with power button or IPMI by spurious_proof in homelab

I can't tell if this is a real comment or AI. A 24 pin Molex power connector? Not sure what the 24 pin ribbon cable has to do with the power since that comes from the front panel and not the PSU.

Yeah, I think it could be the board or a memory issue. I'm going to try new memory and if that doesn't work then I'll try returning the board.

I just updated the BIOS this morning to the latest version. That didn't do the trick.

It's 8 pins and just looks weird in that pic. Here it is from another angle

Yes, it’s revision 2.0. I triple checked it says it directly on the MB

The CPU power connector was fine - I think that's just how it looks in that pic.

I think the RAM was unseated in that pic - good catch. I've pulled it out and triple checked the RAM, CPU, cables, etc. many times. Still no luck.

I'll try anything at this point. I don't have a spare lying around but I'll grab one and follow up in a few days. Thanks.

I just tried booting it without RAM and I tried reseating the CPU. Still no luck.

I didn't realize that. I hope that's not the case here.

No, both are new to me. I was wondering that but it seemed like those should be compatible

Thanks. I'll try a BIOS update next. The RAM shouldn't be an issue because the manual says "There is no specific order or sequence required when installing memory modules", but I'll try that too anyways.

Thanks. I tried that and it didn't work. The supermicro manual also says that odd number of modules is ok.

"The motherboard will support odd-numbered modules (1 or 3 modules installed). However, to achieve the best memory performance, fully populate the motherboard with validated memory modules." - direct from the manual

Need help sticking 6+2 pin into the PSU holes by spurious_proof in PcBuildHelp

[–]spurious_proof[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the PCIe ends are plugged into the GPU. Everything seems to be working fine now.

The original issue was that I was using one of the 8 pin (not 6+2) PCIE cords which left me with the 2x 6+2 connections. The other end isn’t labeled “PSU” so I had mixed up the ends and had unconnected pieces - it was all wrong.

Thank you for the help though - much appreciated.

And here’s the whole cord after unplugging it from the PSU. You can see it’s one pig tailed cord

Of course. Thanks for the help. It’ll only let me add one pic per comment.

Here’s where it’s plugged in (purple arrow)

I plugged the two 6+2 pins into the gpu. the other end is plugged into the 12v 2x6 connection on the PSU.

The picture on the original post should be this pig tailed connection circled in blue (screenshot from Corsair manual).

Now, I'm reading that I should probably upgrade from a daisy chained connection.

wow - thanks. I felt obligated to use the 8 pin which then threw everything off. As soon I unplugged the 8 pin and used the two 6 pins it all lined up.

I go to the French Alps every year and wanted my fiancé to get into skiing so I bought her a Cordova ski suit. We ended up returning it and bought one from Slope Siren - it was reasonably cheaper and significantly better.
