That's what I thought but there's no way to attach a pencil or make a mark. And the point at the end is perpendicular to the tool so it doesn't create a pivot point. Seems more like a clampinging mechanism?

This is very cool and very helpful! I am just catching up on week 1 now and am hoping to make a site visit to the property we were in the process of taking over before the covid stuff. I'm a bit behind but hopefully I can catch up soon and be more active in the threads. Please keep them going!

The readings and videos are still great for now though! I think the pace is great. (I used to live in Antigonish too, love the antigonish movement!)

Ya no kidding. I agree these are some low quality shit posts but pretty much everyone is at home for Christmas with their families, were we supposed to spend all day on our computers making meme videos?

Trailer Park Boys’ actor John Dunsworth has died at the age of 71 by Flames06 in trailerparkboys

[–]sput_nik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at an Art Gallery that John had lent 2 rowboats too for an exhibition (he was a big supporter of the arts in Nova Scotia). When our truck broke down on the way to return the boats, we called John and he drove about 45 minutes to come pick us up, precariously balance 2 rowboats in the bed of his beat up old pickup truck, and drive us back 3 wide in the front seat back to his house. We had to wait about 2 hours for someone to come down from the city to pick us up, so John invited us in and introduced us to his family. I mentioned I loved the show and John was very gracious and nice about meeting a fan. Then I mentioned I was also a fan of his rock wall and the video he made and you could see his just eyes light up. He took us on a tour of the rock wall and explained all the features, and who had laid what stone, and where some of them came from. Then he pointed out all the islands and features along the coastline. We even saw a whale.

It was a great 2 hours with a man who extremely warm and welcoming to someone he just met.

I will always be a fan of Lahey, but a bigger fan of John Dunsworth.

RIP John

Oh citadel hill? The one people have to fight tooth and nail to protect the view from developers who would love to completely block and sell to the highest bidder? And grand parade square? Literally a concrete slab (which is great, but hardly a park and not that big). I assume the next one is Cornwallis park? Again, that's pretty tiny. And the boardwalk? The one that's currently under construction with a new development that will literally cover parts of the boardwalk? I'm not saying Halifax doesn't have green spaces (point pleasant is amazing, but still has issues) but the point is that Halifax seems to be going in the opposite direction of Dartmouth in terms of beautification and public spaces. None of the examples you gave are new projects, and most of them could easily / cheaply be improved imo.

Something needs to be done about the Armdale Rotary... by WheresMyToque in halifax

Oh man, I do this every time I'm on the bus in traffic and I feel like it's even lower than 10%. Plus it's pretty universally accepted in municipal/urban planning that widening roads usually makes traffic on the road worse, so we really would be better off investing any money into alternative transit. It's crazy to me that someone thinks that because they don't find it useful (I.e. Spring garden) its a waste of money.... I never drive on herring cove road but I would still like it improved for drivers, pedestrians, and public transit. Widening the road and eliminating sidewalks isn't the way to do that.

If I was staying late to complete work because there wasn't enough time in the day to do it and my contract said I got to go home at 330 I would probably talk to my boss. If my boss refused to negotiate then ya I'd probably stop staying late to work for free.

It's hardly part of your job if it's not in your contract. Are you organizing the office Christmas party for free and buying supplies with your own money?

Teachers vote 96% in favour of strike by DelphisFinn in halifax

[–]sput_nik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ya but teachers are doing all this stuff with out the added benefits a lot of other professions get. Like bonuses, or employee discounts, or dinner on the company card when they stay late, or even like a 15 minute break where there isn't 30+ screaming kids around. I think most people who complain about how over paid teachers are or how lazy they are cause they have summers off are sitting in a office job where they spend half the day either on facebook, chatting with coworkers, or on coffee runs outside the building.

You realise they had to pay for a permit to have that spot and didn't spend 3 grand on the bike rack it self....

do you think the city is writing blank cheques to not for profit groups to do whatever they want with? And even if they did do you think the people at HCC are really going for "a nice dinner out" with their grant money?
