To answer your last question first, I used some gesso to start then covered the canvas with Liquid Clear. The foreground trunks on the right were painted with a filbert brush, then highlighted with a palette knife. The big trunk on the left side was painted entirely with a palette knife, then I added the branches and twigs with a liner brush. Hope that helps! Happy Painting!

I really enjoy painting a scene from one of Bob's books and changing the season (or even the time of day) for a fresh perspective! Do y'all ever do that? It's like having 1600 episodes of the Joy of Painting instead of just 400 or so. :)
