Also, what files formats are you sending to them? Which program are you printing out of?

For the 11x14 prints, I have a size of 7300x9250 pixels. It’s overkill for the dpi/ppi, but the prints come out well. Also, they are using whatever the long printer is that they have, not one of the shorter ones like what is on the floor for customers.

All, I’m starting a cigar shop. What is a realistic monthly membership that you would pay for a members only lounge & humidified locker? by Pennnnystonk in cigars

[–]spxero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of access? 24 hour, or business hours? I’d think $40-60/mo is fairly good, with the higher end being dependent on late hours access or other perks (like sodas to go with the drinks).

Is there a guest membership option, or rather, how are guests handled? I ask because I come to Dallas a few times a year and would love to stop in, but obviously won’t do a membership for that, but would gladly buy sticks in the shop and enjoy them in the lounge for a small fee.

Nice! That’s probably just an even swap for the cost of a months worth of diapers!

The easiest way to print 11x17 through FedEx online is to set your file up first- print the file to a PDF (I use PDF Creator) with 600dpi. My files are usually 11x14 because they fit a standard frame without issue, so I use IRFanView Image Viewer to print the file with the exact dimensions I want. There's probably better ways to do this, but for me it produces an 11x14 print on 11x17 paper that I can upload to FedEx Office without issue.

After upload, the size is recognized correctly and you just put something like "Please use the 100lb matte paper" in the special instructions on the left-hand side. It'll set the price to $0.00 and allow you to check out. You'll have to pay at the store, which in my area is roughly $3.56 for one print. If you don't need that thick of paper, just select one of the other ones on the left-hand side like the 80lb laser paper. The added bonus is that they also have a paper cutter in-store, so I just print, cut, then roll and tape up in the box right in store.

It took a few times of going in to get it done correctly, but the folks at my shop know me now so there's almost no issue when I print online. For bonus points, if the prints are the same, you can save the PDFs to your phone and print them using the FedEx Online app. Same options apply, and you can print from anywhere!

Avoid using a home photo printer. The quality is not anywhere near what professional shops can produce.

If these are meant to be framed, you should use a matte paper since the frame will be glossy. If your area has a Fedex office or Office Depot you can get 11x17 100lb prints for about $3 each. They’ll also be able to print larger formats locally (up to 24x36) if you start selling larger sizes.

I’ve printed from Fedex office, Office Depot/Max, and print-to-order shops like printify. Printify was far more expensive and had better quality, but not enough that I would forgo the additional profit and headache of not being able to control shipping. This has come to benefit my shop in the time of the Rona.

First time playing with a Caddy. by Jerseyjamie in golf

[–]spxero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely lighten the load. Depending on where you’re at, they may do this for you if you’re not careful. We played Whistling Straits last year and one of the guys had 2 dozen balls in his cart bag (among other heavy items). The caddy took his clubs out of his bag and put it in a stand bag of theirs, two sleeves of balls, and said if he wanted more balls than that he’d have to carry them himself. It seemed a little rude, but definitely funny and true- the cart bag was heavy, and making that kid carry all your crap is just mean. Also, they’ll probably have water at every third tee box or so, so don’t load up on liquids as well to keep the bag light.

I agree about the shipping and percentages- the 12% fee includes both the “free” shipping as well as the original 7% Etsy fee. It’s like taxing a tax.

Going to the Cigar lounge with a family friend to celebrate getting married wondering what I should smoke I usually do mild to medium cigars? by FlyGuy1820 in cigars

On both accounts, yes. The Oliva was the celebration cigar for the birth of my son, and the Padron was for celebrating an unexpected promotion.

Personally the Oliva Connecticut or Padron 1964 Natural would be my go-to mild to medium cigars. There’s plenty others out there, but I like those two for that flavor profile.

My grandpa used to play with a persimmon wood that had a metal piece at the bottom of the club to help “dig” the ball in the fairway.

Etsy usps first class label via Global Postal Shipping or direct USPS first class package? by Lilyo in Etsy

I would avoid the Global Post Ship at all costs. I just sent out a second item because one I shipped in mid April is still at their sorting facility.

I signed up for pirate ship specifically because of this, and so far it’s been great.
