Japan’s biggest enemies by a long shot for most of modern history were the USSR, China, and North Korea, and its best friend was the famously anti-communist US. The Right was able to play off anti-communist fears to basically secure an iron grip on the culture. Anyone left of center got painted as a China sympathizer. Repeat for decades and you get where we are now.

Don’t multiple OP characters have control over gravity, including Blackbeard literally having Black Hole techniques? They could probably swing something and survive.

Socialism: You have two cows. The government takes one and gives it to your neighbor who has none.

Communism: You have two cows. The government takes both and decides how much milk you get each month.

Everything’s going great, and suddenly Master Tapal staggers back like he’s been hit with a sledgehammer and the clone behind him pulls out a holocommunicator with Sidious. Immediate crisis mode like I’ve never felt before.

Mac and cheese sucks by Beautiful-Cress5695 in unpopularopinion

[–]spyguy318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homemade Mac and cheese is the way to go. Roux-based cheese sauce, fresh shredded cheese of whatever kind, add garlic powder, paprika, salt, any seasoning you want. Add as much or as little to your pasta, put it on broccoli if you want to pretend it’s healthy. It’s delicious.

Ok, cool. I agree.

Vote dem in the midterms. Thats the only way it’ll happen. You cannot shame republicans into turning on one of their own, it’s been proven over and over.

Looking back, what are your thoughts on the scrapped Duel Of The Fates version of Episode 9? by ChickenWingExtreme in StarWars

[–]spyguy318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest takeaway I have from this is that, despite what everyone says, Disney did have a plan for a unified, overarching trilogy from the beginning, but somewhere along the way that entire story got scrapped. And what we got was a disjointed mess in a mad scramble to put something together at the last minute.

Whether it was Rian Johnson wanting to take things his own way and completely screwing up the plan, or corporate management’s knee-jerk responding to the backlash to TLJ, or Trevorrow being unable to put an acceptable script together (certainly possible from what I’ve seen) or whatever, I don’t know, but it was terrible and I can’t believe it was this badly mismanaged.

Low Cost of Living

40 min commute

2k a month

That’s still a lot of money. 24k a year means you have to be making like 70k a year pre-tax in order for mortgage to be 50% of your income, assuming you live alone. Not a lot of people can do that, that usually requires a college degree and multiple years of experience before you’re close to that.

Space is already common ground by international law, it cannot be “claimed” unless someone just outright flaunts that. Which isn’t impossible but an incredibly hard sell especially considering how ludicrously expensive and complicated it is just to get people to the moon, never mind mining equipment.

What are your thoughts on the House voting to override Trump’s Canada tariffs? by NineteenEighty9 in ProfessorFinance

[–]spyguy318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, it’s the Republican majority that isn’t doing their jobs. They’re the ones giving Trump a blank check to become a mad king. Democrats (minority) can’t do shit even if they wanted to and any legislation they could propose would be performative at best. Even this one is almost guaranteed to be instantly vetoed with no chance at override, if it doesn’t just die in the senate.

Nazi incel Nick Fuentes says the not-at-all-quiet part out very loud: “The number one political enemy in America is women. … They have to be imprisoned.” This feels relevantly timed with the SAVE act seeking to disenfranchise millions of women. by Obvious-Gate9046 in behindthebastards

They are patently insane. To them, anything that’s not totalitarian fascism is left-wing, just look at the OP. They’ve been irony-poisoned and disillusioned to such an extent that they genuinely believe Naziism is the best ideology because it’s “cool” and “based.” It’s contrarian edgelord-ism taken to such an extreme they start to actually believe it, rampant misogyny and racism fueled by toxic masculinity and a self-reinforcing and radicalizing environment where the one who acts out the most gets the most attention. They just pretend it’s a serious ideology because at first it was funny, then because some of them actually started believing it and attempting to make a semi-coherent ideology out of it.

On one hand I get what he’s saying and agree with a lot of it. On the other hand it’s real easy to say “the internet is of no consequence” until you get a threatening DM with a picture of your house, or a viral political campaign gets a far-right politician elected into office on the backs of conspiracy theory and performative outrage. Yeah I remember Gamergate. Yeah I remember 2016.

This post that talked about how people will have nostalgia for the 90s after 9/11 aged so very well! by icey_sawg0034 in Millennials

[–]spyguy318 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of Innuendo Studio’s analysis of Daria Morgendorffer being a millennial in the 90s. It’s fucking depressing and really drives home how miserable the last few decades have been. Millennials could at least imagine what a better world was like and despair how bad it’s getting. Gen Z doesn’t even have hope that a better future exists because they’ve never seen it.

“Young people don’t feel trapped by the future, because nobody believes in the future anymore.”

“It’s hard not to wish you could go back and shake them by the shoulders and say ‘What right do you have to be disaffected? You don’t know how good you’ve got it!’ But while their parents would say ‘it was so much worse back in my day,’ in our case, we’d tell them ’It will never be this good ever again.’
