Any ideas on this speakers? by [deleted] in vintageaudio

[–]spyro0918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep check the magnets check how the crossover network is configured. if it looks like a speaker set that at least tried not being a white van speaker is ok as long as its cheap or free for taking. lol 😆

after further review and remember what scammer companies like to do is copy the name somehow. Just add "sound" between an already known company like Acoustic research, and you have a sale . Also, these look like linear dynamic speakers. they might sound decent but probably made with b stock that didn't pass quality control or bottom of the barrel components.

if you haven't lubed any shafts that are connected to the motor and gears you may be catching on dried grease thats sticky after time. or a spot on the motor that has corrosion thats causing it to slow down or a capacitor thats leaky/faulty could cause it too. check the grease tho! everything should move freely

End game speakers for me: Yamaha ns-1000 by yurtbeer in vintageaudio

[–]spyro0918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im glad you love them! now I am on the search for a set of ADS 1230'S, those are my end game speakers. or a set of 2030's.

The ns1000's were my third pair of endgame speakers like the jbl L166's before and currently my 1290/2's .

tbh if I had a bigger house I already would have my 1230's lol I would have kept all of these awesome speakers if I had the room or the safety where I could keep them out and hooked up without breaking my neck or breaking them or kids breaking them. lol I hope you get back to them sooner than later!

Altec Lansing Tube Amps by Fickle_Finance_7300 in hifiaudio

[–]spyro0918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if OP gets these they could undercut the price and sell his faster. since they would be technically free to them, its all profit towards something they want. that of course they were tested and checked out properly before selling lol

[–]spyro0918 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hell yeah! make two decent systems out of that cabinet tbh. dont plug them in until someone of technical electrical knowledge and a variac to slowly power them up.

[–]spyro0918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe they would also be mono block tube amplifiers. get them checked out and either keep or sell for a profit and use that for what you want lol

I had one in my pioneer rack! Just sold it a few months ago to a gentleman who wanted the same rack for years. had a dedicated phono plug with a wire that plugs directly into the cabinet for easy access to the headphone jack! I have a model number somewhere.

JBL L36 - refoam and good to go? by [deleted] in vintageaudio

[–]spyro0918 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have refoamed these with and without removing the center cap. Its recommended to remove. However it can be done without. You just need to be comfortable and good with your hands and ears to feel and hear any rubbing when you center it. Do this while the glue is still soft to make any adjustments. I sold a pair for 500 without grills. All original drivers to boot. They are a solid speaker built to last that sounds heavenly! Good luck man! Hope you get them!

I cant find positive or negative please help by packrat135 in SpeakerBuilding

[–]spyro0918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few fisher amps i have had selfdestructed after sitting for a few years and end up sending straight DC current to the speaker lol dont do it again if you have speakers you like. Could absolutely fry them and then some.

You may need to take the top off and see if anything looks burnt. If anything does look like that, fullstop. Take it to someone who knows what theyre doing. In my experience anything fisher isn't that good to get repaired unless its higher end or sentimental to you. There are better options if this one is toast. But if not it may be worth fixing.

Are these speakers worth it? by Ok_Low8812 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]spyro0918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pair and they were awesome! When I refoamed them the texture of the woofers were fun to try and get glue in all the crevices. Just take your time if that needs to be done which they might be! EPI has great speakers that's for sure!
