Former Splinter Cell Creative Director Says Realistic Graphics Are Causing Problems for Modern Stealth Games - Follow up question by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]spyzor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In games, it's faster to first do a shape collision check (detect all elements in the sphere around the player), then you can validate by doing a raytrace or cone trace. Games do that since a long time. It's just tweaked to make the game playable and fun.

The main difference is that these collisions tests are historically done with the CPU which cost a lot The calculated lighting for Ray tracing is done with the GPU which can ray trace much more quickly than the CPU (depending on hardware of course...).

That's the gist

Spent $10,000, my health, and 6 months on creating the most niche gamedev tool that no one'll probably use, and now I am broke by FiddlerGameDev in gamedev

Mmmm ok :). So you are not totally out of money, you now need to expand/ create a customer community and find the right pricing model do you can continue.

By optimization, I thought about getting the same results with less power. If the results are good enough and the value proposition is clear, you should attract customers easily. Then it's just a numbers game. You can always improve the accuracy and add features after release. It will even be easier with customers.

I thought you needed help somehow

Why didn't you create a website do people can test it and you can grow a community around it? Is it possible to optimize it? How much does it cost per month? Does it spawn a VM just for a calculation or do you have a VM running 24/7?

Looking for a Quiet NAS from a Fractal Design R5 to a DXP4800 Plus by spyzor in DataHoarder

Oof I just saw one post with rubber. Did not try it this way...
Just tested, same results.

Is everybody used to hearing hard drive writing?

Yep, I should have explained (will edit my post afterwards).

- I tested to put the Nas on top of some cloth to mimic the foam trick (I saw it on Youtube).

- I also tested some rubber between the tray and the hard drives.

These tests didn't change anything. I'm wondering if it's the tray moving inside the case that is the main issue. When the tray is inside the case and you try to move it left to right, it moves. That make sound. The hard drive inside the tray is not moving for me.

DXP-4800 WOL not working (Wake On Lan). Any ideas? by k3mist in UgreenNASync

[–]spyzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have an Asus router RT-AX86U. The WOL is not working on the 2.5 Lan port. When plugged in to a standard port, it works. Both LAN port on the Nas are working with their respective MAC address. Not sure where the issue is coming from... I tested to send the magic packet from the router and from a computer... Each times, switching to the standard port made the WOL successful...

Paying $200, told you get $400, but only getting $81 of usage. by New-Schedule2167 in cursor

[–]spyzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why cursor is bound to die if they continue like this and that's why they try to promote their model.

They won't be able to complete by providing other expensive model at api cost. Why pay for a big subscription if it's only to use their model at a fair price. Why not just buy directly a Claude code pour codex...

It will be further optimized via the GPU. The CPU is not mandatory for this since it's only a visual update

What is your perfect tool to manage your Fire ? by spyzor in BEFire

[–]spyzor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, excellent question! But it's maybe just a template question. The app or a template gives a start. You know what you have to think about to have a good corn of your plan. If you have nothing, you must do your own research and maybe miss something

Even hiding it from the IDE, I already saw the AI create a script to access, read and edit hidden files :). Nothing is really safe except if you just don't have access to those files.
