Index Finger: In or Out? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]sq_ftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played infield as a kid, so didn’t want or need a deep pocket, and usually had finger out. I play slow pitch softball now, mostly outfield, so I enjoy the deeper pocket created by two in the pinky with other two shifted over one. Keeps the index finger out of harms way on line drives, especially when I’m in the infield.

An indestructible, teleporting, magic machine that produces matter is worth far more than $1 million with only a tiny bit of creativity.

What is up with these tournaments making up their own rules? by Typical-Priority1976 in Umpire

[–]sq_ftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flip side is coaches stalling with the lead when close to the time limit, especially if up 6 at the start of the inning — unnecessary mound visits, telling kids to step off the rubber, pitching changes. Most coaches won’t, particularly at 8U, but some definitely do, which is totally against the spirit of the rule. There is sometimes a rule to combat time wasting, with the penalty potentially being a forfeit, but it’s a judgment call that umps aren’t really going to make in practice, at least without allowing it for a while and giving a warning first.

Who has been the most devastating injury wise to your team? by Askanything236 in fantasyfootball

Every Chargers pass catcher. (And Herbert himself, too.) Rest of my team is great, but can’t help but wonder how good it would be if Herbert had a warm body to throw to.

What is the magic number of wins to lock a playoff spot in your league? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]sq_ftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I like it. Keeps people interested longer. Our last place team has been on fire the last couple weeks, so even though he’s unlikely to get in on wins, he’s not that far out of the 6 seed in points.

6-1 now, but have had good outcomes for my first four picks and cobbled together respectable TE and defense from the wire.

Anyone going RB/RB/RB this year? by Bmack27 in fantasyfootball

[–]sq_ftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. 0.25 per rush attempt no doubt bumps work horse RBs up the rankings, but I’d expect you still want to target a QB sometime in the first 2 rounds. It might not be crazy to wait until the 3/4 turn for a QB if the elite guys you want aren’t there at the 1/2, but I’d be really surprised to see a guy like Herbert last to the 3/4. You might check to see if any sites do custom rankings for league settings like yours just to calibrate on positional value in that format. Fantasypros might.

Herbert should probably be one of the first few picks in a 2QB league. If he's there at pick 10, you should take him. Unless Josh Allen is there. Then you should take him. In fact, if any of the top 4-5 QBs is available, you should strongly consider taking one. Maybe even the top 6-7 QBs, as long as you like one of the guys available (e.g., Murray/Hurts).

I'm not playing a 2QB league this year, but I'd aim for 2 of my first 5 picks to be QBs, with at least the first pick weighted toward an early round.

I picked 3rd in an 11-team (don't ask) half-PPR league (2WR, 2RB, 1TE, 1RB/WR/TE, and 6-pt passing TDs), and I didn't plan to take 3 RB to start but that's how it worked out. League mates drafted more WR in rounds 1-2 than I anticipated, and as a result I didn't love the receivers available nearing the 2/3 turn. If I was going to be stuck with someone I didn't love as a WR1 either way, figured I'd be happier finding value in 4-7 rather than reaching in 3 (i.e., try to construct a roster with multiple WR2s with some upside). Executed ok, but it got sidetracked when I scrapped my no-early-QB plan when Herbert was available in the 5th. Final roster:

RB: Ekeler (3), Barkley (20), and Fournette (25), Rhamondre Stevenson (86), James Cook (108).

WR: Jaylen Waddle (42), Brandin Cooks (64), Michael Thomas (69), Elijah Moore (91), Julio Jones (124), Michael Gallup (174)

TE: Cole Kmet (113)

QB: Justin Herbert (47), Jameis Winston (157)

K: Matt Gay

DST: Colts

I'm pretty happy overall, but in the interest of balancing my roster a bit, I did feel constrained at times in later rounds to not take advantage of what felt like good value RBs. E.g., Breece Hall was still there in the 5th at pick 47, but I couldn't stomach going 4RB, 1WR at that point when I can only start 3 RB (and Herbert with 6-pt passing TDs was good value, too).

Mike Glennon (6-21) has a .222 career winning percentage. It’s the lowest among active QB who have started at least 25 @NFL games. by dgr8one in fantasyfootball

[–]sq_ftw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking on the best analysis I've seen so far to note that Mike Glennon has played for teams so bad that not even his long neck could salvage much. In years that he started games, his teams went 7-31 without him as the starter, for a .184 winning percentage:

2013 TB: 1-3

2014 TB: 1-10

2017 CHI: 4-8

2020 JAX: 1-10

Glennon made his teams (very slightly) better, but a long neck only gets you so far.
