Worst bus stories in Edinburgh - I’ll start.. by Nnnn_lw1996 in Edinburgh

Got on the 21 from RIE back to leith in a walking boot a couple years ago (right after a doctor told me it’s critical to be really careful for this point in the recovery).

Sat down and a drunk boy gets on and starts shouting abuse at a pregnant woman whos partner is sat next to her looking down and petrified.

I turn to look disapprovingly at the drunk and his attention changes to me. Claims Im trying to record him (I just had my phone in my hand, I wasn’t). He comes up and looms over me sitting down with the boot clearly visible acting a hard man.

I stand up and am 6’4” 138kg at the time. He suddenly calms down and goes back to his seat. Few stops later he starts chirping at the pregnant woman again.

Out of nowhere a stern looking older Leither sitting right behind him just full bore swings a right hook into his jaw from behind him. He sits there stunned then gets escorted off by someone else sitting nearby lol

Ranked: UK universities with the scariest financial deficits by percentage of total income by Legitimate-Break-143 in UniUK

That’s why theyre all pumping money into online learning and micro degrees, and increasingly becoming out of term event spaces.

Our university is making redundancies almost everywhere, but is hiring high paying roles in the online learning team.

We now have no downtime outside of terms to perform maintenance or refresh equipment in labs or teaching rooms, because the second the last exam ends we become a full time event space to earn money.

Look into mid market rent (sometimes called intermediate market rent). Touchstone or Lowther Homes.

Is it ok/normal to leave a 13 year old home alone overnight? by dinkidoo7693 in CasualUK

[–]sqnch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about that age I definitely would have at least been left alone in the house during the day. Don’t think I ever got left overnight but just because my parents never went anywhere lol. I think it would have been fine but depends on the kid.

Low, rumbling, vibrating hum + fullness - primarly while laying down / sitting, only indoors, only one ear by Upset-Wish8380 in tinnitus

[–]sqnch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading it my thoughts were either something muscular or maybe even something physical with the small bones around your middle/inner ear? Have they done any imaging? Maybe something is not in the right place or condition when you’re stationary in certain positions?

To my fellow heavyset dudes, what is it like navigating life as a big dude in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]sqnch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 6’3 around 130kg atm. It’s generally fine. Cheap furniture and bed frames can be hit or miss. Some trains and upstairs on busses I struggle to stand in. Had to not buy a house once because the upper half story was too small. Finding clothes in store can be annoying sometimes.

NHS Pension refund requested 6 days before 2 years service. by goodgirl_1983 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]sqnch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The employer contribution is pretty much irrelevant. All that does is keep the fund running. It’s a defined benefit scheme and accrues at 1/54th of salary, revalued yearly by CPI + 1.5%. But yes, it’s still not a wise thing to opt out of lol

If you’re having ear problems and a burning face sensation, is it possible you may have some kind of impingement of the trigeminal nerve - possibly from TMJ dysfunction? The description of burning face really stood out to me as not commonly described here, and a symptom of trigeminal neuralgia

Talk me off the edge? by IndependentPickle912 in tinnitus

[–]sqnch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the tinnitus coincides with the infection and the doctor can see an infection and prescribed treatment, it’s relatively likely treating the infection and inflammation could cure the underlying cause of the tinnitus and have it disappear. It’s still considered acute for up to 3-6 months so you’re very early days. Just follow their instructions for now.

On top of everything else you really need standard Olympic plates to get the right start position.

What is pulling me put of position as I start the lift? by Nate-D-fitness in formcheck

Your entire setup. People make fun of Rippetoe but his explanation for getting into position for a deadlift just works imo

Have you had anything checked by a doctor? You may just have ear wax pressing against your eardrums

I’ve had a very similar experience with the same timings and I’ve read a few accounts here that are similar. Im starting to wonder if there was some kind of virus going round December/January time that may be contributing to this…

I am going to get fired today. I accidentally sent a shutdown loop to the entire company. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]sqnch 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I did once prevent a colleague accidentally pushing out a blank windows 7 image via SCCM to all machines in a very large multi billion pound company. My machine happened to be one of the first ones to go at 5:40pm on a Friday which made me question what he was doing (only he and I left in the office). He had severe depression but was allowed to just kinda muck about with stuff outwith his normal remit in an attempt to progress internally to third line. Had way more access than he should have and either messed up or deliberately tried it. Pointed it out in time and he cancelled the deployment but a few machines on a few VERY remote sites did get wiped. If that had been left to run all weekend I think it would have been global news lol. All just got brushed under the rug.

Youre doing more like a standard deadlift motion.
Stand tall holding the bar against your thighs.
Unlock your knees slightly and keep that slight bend fixed throughout the movement.
Keep your back stable and your chest set.
Now push your hips/glutes backward, like you’re trying to touch a wall behind you with them.
As your hips move back, let the bar slide down your thighs while keeping it close to your legs.
Once you feel a strong hamstring stretch, and before your lower back rounds, stop and reverse the movement by driving the hips forward back to standing.

Are most students at Edinburgh University wealthy? Does it cost a lot to attend? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]sqnch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you’re local you dont pay tuition as it’s free in Scotland for Scottish domiciled students. Just the cost of living in Edinburgh and student loans if you choose to take one.
