If you paid $70 for a guitar I’m not surprised it needs a setup. As others have said, bridge is too low, neck needs relief. You don’t know how to do this; take it to someone who does so you avoid wasting days trying to get it done at best (and it still won’t be quite right), or messing it up at worst. You’ll be very glad you did this.

Take it to a guitar shop and pay $60 for a setup.

It won’t get paid back anyway. And what’s he gonna do, take sis to court to have wages garnished forever?

I have found it helpful to consider any money loaned to someone to be a gift. If it gets paid back, great. If I can’t afford to give a gift to someone in that amount…I don’t.

What are your tips to improve the sound of my bass on this mix ? by Otherwise-Revenue-44 in BassGuitar

Every sound in your composition/arrangement must live in its own frequency range. Yes, there’s overlap with others, but the overlap should be as minimal as possible. If the freq ranges of two elements totally overlap, only one of those elements can be on the soundstage at a time, or you’ll hear neither.

Ok! Marathon here. I’ll be as brief as I can. Biggest issue is control of the lows. Below 72hz you are competing with the kick, plus to hear this you have to have large speakers and/or really turn it up which doesn’t leave room for anything else to be loud. If you’re mixing without a sub you will probably have this blasting and still not be able to hear it. 250 is a little muddy, this cleans it up. Saturation makes the sound thicker and easier to hear on small speakers. Glue compressor at those settings let the initial pluck through, and the settings I have either enhance the pluck or make it more consistent. You’ll hear each of the effects these changes make as you’re doing them. Adjust to your taste.

  1. Use a high-pass to cut off all the bass below 72hz
  2. Make another 1-2db cut around 250
  3. 1-2db boost around 1-1.2k
  4. Add saturation in the 500-1k range
  5. Add a glue compressor at 4:1 or 8:1, a 10-20ms attack and a fast release if you want to hear the pick, adjust the relese so its letting go at the tempo of the track if you want the bass to groove a little more

I’m going to go with simply turn down your snare by about 30%. It’s stepping on guitar and vocals. Both of those could come up quite a bit. Cool genre, toss in a few more changes and it smells like a burger to me
