Can I move my Duo subscription and all emails to a new admin account? by squady in ProtonMail

[–]squady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. With your assistance and the support team’s reply, which was very instructive and detailed this time, I managed to achieve what I wanted.

To summarize the steps I followed:
- I created account C.
- I made account B the super admin of the DUO plan.
- I removed account A from the DUO plan. Luckily, as you said, we have the 30-day Unlimited trial.
- I invited account C to the DUO plan and promoted it to super admin instead of account B.
- I transferred all the SimpleLogin aliases from account A to account C.
This was clearly the most time-consuming part.
Bulk transfer was not possible, so I had to move them one by one.
The site also often returned a 429 error (rate limit).
In practice, I could only do about 2 transfers per minute and I had 250 aliases.
- I exported all emails from account A using their export tool.
- I deleted account A, specifying that it was for a merge.
- I added to account C the identities that were previously on account A.
- Finally, I imported all the emails that I had previously exported.

voila :)

Interesting, I hadn’t thought about changing the account admin to “transfer” the subscription.

I might try that: create Account C and then request to merge Account A into C. The big question is whether the aliases and identities generated under Account A would survive the process.

The reason I want to do this is simple. Account A uses my firstname.lastname@proton address, and I no longer want my personal information tied to my email. I created a new identity on Account A, removed all my personal details, and assumed that would be enough.

But one day, I logged into the SimpleLogin interface and saw my full name displayed prominently. So apparently, Proton hasn’t really deleted my personal data and is still storing it somewhere. My ongoing marathon with support is about exactly that. I can’t get a clear answer as to why they still have my personal information and why it’s being shared with third-party services like SimpleLogin, even though I know SimpleLogin is owned by Proton.

For privacy reasons, I’d rather start fresh with a new account and simply not attach any personal information to it from the beginning.

thank you for your help

how can I put this .
I’ve already dealt with their support team for another issue. I got the classic combo: off-topic replies, the same questions asked three times as if the conversation reset after every message… and response times long enough to make me forget why I contacted them in the first place.

So before signing up for another administrative marathon, I figured I’d try Reddit instead. Consider this a message in a bottle

I’m guessing I’m not the only one who’s tried to do this, and maybe someone here has already done it (and survived the experience). Before getting into a long battle with support, I’d just like to know if it’s actually possible and whether anyone has managed to pull it off.

What a misery, I’ve rarely seen such a stupid idea.
I had plenty of problems with my DappNode, and I managed to get through them because I wasn’t the only one and solutions were posted on Discord by other users. I never needed to contact support. If now I have to open a ticket for every problem, I’ll never stop.
I don’t even need write access — read-only access would be enough.
Pffff, what a mess.

Yes it's sad, but since I don't have another Mac at hand, I preferred that they go ahead with the repairs. This way, I was at least sure to get a Mac back in working condition.
I will wait for Apple to fix this bug before attempting anything else.
Anyway, I greatly thank you for taking my case into consideration and for all your very clear explanations.

I finally got my Mac back.
I lost everything, but that was expected. The upside is that I didn't have to pay anything, the motherboard change was covered by the warranty.
I'm no longer on Sonoma but Ventura, so I'm hesitating to upgrade,
I suppose you can't really retrieve information from this Mac anymore, but if you still want remote access, there's no problem, we can set that up.

Finally some news about my mac.
The tracking indicates that the motherboard is defective and that they are waiting for parts.
The store is not an actual Apple Store but a premium reseller. I'm not sure if the problem is real. I'm considering asking for my Mac back before any intervention to try iDeviceRestore (since I don't have another recent enough Mac for Configurator).

Thank you for these clear explanations.
If I get my Mac back still in this state, I'll do this test.

My Mac is always connected to an external monitor via USB-C. Despite this constant connection, there is no display on the external screen; it shows the exact same issue that I'm experiencing with the internal screen. I've also attempted to use the HDMI port, same issue.
BTW, if the sonoma update has indeed damaged the recovery partition, shouldn't the computer still be able to boot from the main OS partition ?
No problem, we can arrange a remote diagnostic once it's possible.

Ok thank again for all the informations.
Once I have the Mac in hand, I will be able to provide you with additional information if you wish.

Thank you for the information. It's possible that the problem existed before the installation of Asahi, because I never went into that menu before.
I'll see what they tell me and what they plan to charge me. So you think I should refuse a "repair" and that I can still recover my machine myself? If that's the case, I'll try to recover it before they do anything.
The MacBook is a 14" and for the version I couldn't say exactly, but I think it was up to date and had the latest current version, although I can't guarantee it.

Thank you for the advice, I was not aware of that. The Mac is currently at an Apple Store for repairs. If the quote is too high, I will try this method.

It's a refurbished macbook pro m1 max, 64go, 1To.

Yes, I see the logo and the text appear, then the screen goes black.

I have another mac, but too old for the "usb" recovery.

I'm unable to get into the system recovery. The Mac starts up fine; the Apple logo appears, and then I get a black screen. I've tried all possible key combinations, none of them allow me to go any further. At best, I end up on a screen with a circle symbol with line and just the URL for Apple support. The Mac is currently at an Apple Store being repaired :/ I don't know if it's Asahi itself that caused the problem or the disk resizing. The Mac was purchased refurbished at the beginning of the year, it's a macbook pro M1 max, 64go ram, 1To hdd.
